Post your system specs and budget. If you need help with the specs, try CPU-Z from my signature.

You had better make sure you actually have an AGP slot before you try to upgrade the video. I'm betting some Compaqs don't.

In any case, I can't see you getting much out of that system even with a new video card. A 9800 Pro or GeForce 6800 would make sense for future use, but they are just a waste of money for that system. A Radeon 9600 or maybe 9600 Pro would make sense if you are just looking for a nice gaming boost right now. It's not that great, and it won't provide good performance on a stonger system, but it's just about the best that thing can take advantage of.

If you are willing to throw some money at this, another 256MB of RAM would be a great start. After that, a new processor (maybe a Sempron 2800) would be good for you. If you're willing to spend even more to get a powerful video card, a new power supply and a video card (a GeForce 6800 or 9800 Pro instead of the 9600) would be good. Otherwise, you can get a good 9600 (I would recommend you purchase a Sapphire 9600 from Newegg.com) for around $95 U.S. The 9600 Pro would be worth the few bucks more it costs, as well.

Thanks for the suggestions, but the problem is, im from India and i dont hae that much moeny. My parents gave me a budget of about Rupees 10,000 whic is 10,000 divided by $50 which comes to about $200 which i dont think will be sufficient or will it?.And BTW i have a inbuilt 8x APG slot in my pc.

Well, here in the US, you can get a Radeon 9800 Pro for around the $200 USD mark on-line.

If you can't afford that (I'd bet your prices are worse), go for a Radeon 9600 card of some sort. The 9600XT wouldn't be a terrible card, and you can likely afford it.

Well its not the question of my able to afford it, its just that my parents arnt very interested in promoting my gaming skills and i think im fortunate to atleast get that much as a budget now.Well im currently looking at the ASUS Geforce 5600 ultra 128mb ram. What do u think of the card?.Will i be able to play nfsu in the higest setting, will i be able to play games like half life 2, UT 2004, Far Cry 2 NFSU2 etc and all the other top games?

It will play the games just fine, though I doubt it will paly anything at top settings (which I consider to include resolution since alsmot any game can be played on top settings at low resolutions). Exactly how much will that card cost you and how much would some of the other cards cost?
