    Default Vid Card Prices

Look at that baby, is that $349 for real??? Does it come with warrenty and all that? I was thinking of getting an X800Xl but if I can get an X850XT for the same price... why not?

6800GTs and X800XLs are down to $260-$290 now; that price shouldn't be suprising at all. Though it's certainly more competitive than the Ultra, which is still over $400. PS 3.0 or not, I'd much rather have an X850XT for $350 than an Ultra for over $400.

On the cheaper side; this is for Yawg really since I know you know more about 9800's. Would you get a 9800Pro 256 bit 256MB or a Geforce 6600GT? For the price the 9800 seems to be better.

The 9800 Pro makes more sense for current pricing. Overclocked, it's the same thing for much less money. That said, were I in the position to choose between the two I'd pay the extra for a 6600GT. Image quality is important and Pixel Shader 3.0 makes enough of a difference to warrant the price increase over the 9800 Pro. For gamers who care more about high framerates, a 9800 Pro is a much better buy ATM.

The R9800pro as the standard in 2004 gaming gpu, the GF6600GT is like 120% better and the X800xt is 220% better. The GF6800gt is 188% better than the R9800pro. ref

X800XL's were on closeout in the local DFW Best Buys for $200.00 (AGP). I nabbed one - even if it is SM 2.0 by the time the card is outdated SM 3.0 might actually be viable.

SM 3.0 is viable now. That card is overkill for pretty much every game that doesn't make use of it already. I can tell the difference with my 6800GT.

Still, that price suprises me. Once in a while, Best Buy does have some nice prices for cards. I'd take it in a heartbeat if I had the money I got my 6800GT with. Pixel Shader 3.0 or not, that's one hell of a price. Had I been given the option of that or my 6800GT, I'd basically be paying $70 for SM 3.0. But I didn't even check Best Buy, and I somehow doubt the same deal was going on here when I bought the card.

I have an X850 XT PE AGP and it is even voltmodded. That being said, I would NOT spend the money on another AGP card that is not Shader 3 complient. Yes my card is blindlingly fast in benchmarks, but games just can't take advantage of the speed. I only see the advantages in benchmarks. ANd with ATI's new line coming out, well it just may be worth waiting. A better upgrade for that price is a PCI-E motherboard and a 6600GT. And if you get SLI, two 6600GTs can outbench a X850 XT PE.
