Default AGP GeForce 6600LE 256 - any good..? Worth it...?

Have a GeForce 4 4200 at the moment and want something a bit better but nothing that needs to be mind blowing (etc).

Don't ask why - but gotta go for an AGP.

Have seen a decent priced GeForce 6600LE with 256 DDR3.

My question is this though... there is a big big price difference if I went for a 6600GP - so are the LE models worth while?

I want to see a good improvement over my GeForce 4 - but am not at all concerened at being top of the range.

Will the 256 make up a bit of ground against a GT that only has 128?

Are LEs a waste of time - would love to know opions as can't afford a GT.

Thanks a million for any replies at all.
    best regards.

    Comfy

bf2nut I've read several of your posts and you have failed to impress me. You seem to know a lot about video cards and little about real life. For the most part you just don't get the fact that no matter how much money a lot of us in the real world make we have commitments that outweigh our need to spend several hundred dollars a year on toys. ....yes we enjoy our computers and a lot of us use them for much more important things than gaming, but $600 video cards are mostly for the "toy" aspect of computing. Don't start going off about "paper routes" etc. ... a lot of the people here are not children but adults with REAL jobs and careers as well as mortgages, wives, and children. The need for food clothing, and shelter seems to come before toys. Even the younger people here (if they are well adjusted) would probably prefer to spend that kind of coin on something more fun ... llike a girlfriend ... or a vehicle.

Another aspect that you seem to be missing is that most of us overclock for fun ... just to see how far we can get. It is not that the games look much better 5 or 10 fps faster but the fact that we were able to bend the specs to our will and that it worked! It is the idea of pushing beyond the limits that the manufaturer said was safe and getting away with it.

At some point you decided that there was no way a game was playable at less than 1600 X 1200 and 80 FPS with all eyecandy enabled. Cool! And good for you! I know people who are just as happy playing solitare at 800 X 600 with monitors that still run at 60 mhz! Really those people do exist!

I do believe that you know what you are talking about when it comes to the power of the newer cards but reality is that some of us are just as happy with our older ones. Another reality is that some of the cards that you refer to as "crap" were once the best cards money could buy. Six months from now your current 7900gtx 512 will probably be labled as "crap" by another elitist gamer.

    prarie,
yes i agree what your saying 100 percent, this is not gonna be back and forth.but.....
like i said earlier post after post, hour after hour, day after day many ppl here are complaining of many issues with lesser cards.and the answer im reading is overclocking?no.pipe mods, mabye for temp solution til they void manufacter specs and burn card(been there).point is these cards all have specific duties that can be mimicked but not imitated.for all the stress i simply made a post stating facts with the way these cards run.ok?again this wasnt bashing, just stating facts on real world performance, and yes x1900xtx,7900gtx will be crap after a year or so but u wont ever find me again trying to push a cards limits just to get to(acceptable gameplay)to each there own!sorry if u took it wrrong.many ppl can sit here and try and say hey"try new drivers?,try diff mem(should have prpoer memory regardless 2 gigs),try a new moniter?why are all these said?to simply trying to go around the facts that $150-$200 wont cut it for the performance they were never meant to be played at period.and yes ppl play play solitare at 60 hz like u said.but...my post only applied to all the mislead adverstising ploys from huge companys selling us$150-$200 cards with cool promotions and cool boxes, with crap real world performance for games like bf2,quake4.only bringing real world staements to the table.o wait lemme sugar coat it like most do.yes guys a $150 will rape bf2,quake4..just oc,pipe it,mod it,wow just to find articfacts.crashes,hi temps.....hmmm........i,ll take 2 in sli? lol........koool?heres my thing i grab a new card every 6 months sell my old 1.lose $100,$150 then grab another. all in all costs me about $200-$300 for a leet card by recycling this method vs buying a card that was never meant to play hi res games, then only to have it get older and run even less as time goes on,and the whole time along never be happy whole time ppl owned these cards....ya?

I don't know why people bash on older cards so much. I could run CS:S at 1920*1200 with all the graphics on with a 9700pro, and athlon xp 2600. I put a x850xt and now i can run half-life 2 at the same settings. In fact there are few games that i can't run at 1280*1024 maxed settings with a system that except for the video card is three years old. Bang for your buck "older" cards are way better than getting the newest one.
