Default Help chooseing new gfx card

I want to buy a new graphics card, I realy know only a few things about gfx cards, interface, memory and 3D capability. I would greatly apreciate some help. Let me first underline what I want to do:

I mostly research via internet, but ocasionaly play 3D games such as Delta Force BHD, MYST Revelation and CSI Miami.

I have also developed an interest in 3D Computer Graphics mainly I use Blender 3D.

The reason for buying a new card is not because it cannot preform my tasks, but rather my brother needs a card and im makeing him a deal. That said I currently have the following:

Celestica Gold Edition Radeon 9200 SE w/ 128MB DDR 400 and TV out

I am considering the following card:

    Asus V9520-X/TD Geforce 5200FX (128MB DDR 400) TV out plus DVI-D

they seem equal in terms of memory, but the Asus has a connector for DVI-D and a much difernt chipset

The features are completly named diferntly between the cards. All I know is it must support my games, and not be choppy, in which my current card is not choppy.

Given the above info do you think this card is beter then the Celestica one

Is Nvidia 5200FX beter then ATI Radeon 9200 SE and how can I tell?

No, the 5200FX is absolute garbage. Do you play games? Why limit yourself to such low end cards? Get an X800 GTO or even a used 9800PRO and you will be much happier.

Thanks, Yes I do play games, Radeon 9800 is out of my price range, but what about Radeon 9250? says it has 256MB RAM 400 DDR, the 9200 is suposed to be faster then 9200SE acording to ATI.

Is there certian things I should know when compareing graphics cards, so far Ive only considered RAM, interface, DX9

When I was at the store today i noticed a couple of games require T&L and Hardware acelleration

    Where can I learn more?

Ok it turns out I have enough to buy the following:

    Sapphire Radeon 9600XT 128MB DDR 400 RAM

Site says 9600XT but when compareing pictures to that on Sapphires site, it matches the XT modle, how do I tell if a card has hardware acel, and T&L?

    http://www.canadasys.com/online/prod...2dbb9247acf3eb

EDIT: ok scratch that idea, my board only suports 1.5V AGP signaling, but 9550 on ATI's site says nothing about signaling

Almost all 4X/8X AGP cards support 1.5V. The 9600XT is actually one of your best budget choices. That or a 6600 Nvidia based card. 128MB Vram is enough. The 256MB versions use slower ram and it is a waste of money.

After viewing the specks at ATI on the 9600 chipset it apears:

    AGP 4x (1.5v) and AGP 8x (0.8v),

My mobo states 1.5V only, I assume this would mean that I would be forced to run at 4x.

Price im looking at is $74 CDN max, that way Ill have enough after tax. That card looks great, and if I had alittle extra cash i would buy it.

I'm not the quake kinda guy, realy an ocasional gamer, with interest in Simulations and virtual 3D, such as Myst or Sim's, but I get a thrill with Need for speed underground.

That card would be perfect for your needs. The difference between 4X and 8X is so minimal that it just doesn't matter. Plus, that card will play almost any game out one low to mid level settings.

    Thanks,

Ok maybe you can help, The web site for the store says
    "
    Sapphire ATI Radeon 9600 AGP8X 128MB DDR"

Now when I go to Sapphire's site, the only image that matches is the 9600XT, Look at the following please.

    CanadaSys site image
    Sapphire site image

So im trying to figure out, is this perhaps a fake?

I can understand them haveing stock, but what I cannot understand is how the image does not match any of the Radeon 9600 Cards produced by sapphire. I have sent an email to the site to straighten this out.

    Thanks.
