Default Doe 320 extra RAM in a video card a big deal?

OK, so in my countless search to keep buying every videocard, I always have this stupid debate. Money over specs. My latest question involves the usual evga and xfx differecnes and your advice on what to get.

    The card: 8800GTS
    EVGA - 640 ram $430
    http://www.evga.com/product/moreinfo...821-AR&family=
    XFX - 320RAM with games COD2 and GRAW $330
    http://www.xfxforce.com/web/viewFeat...atureId=901525

I know i know, games costs so much and are not as new as they could be. if that is the case then my question is mostly about the RAM: Is that extra ram worth the extra $100?

Having read the benchmarks, I'd say the extra memory is not worth the extra $100. However, I got my 8800GTS for around $380. That was definitely worth the premium compared to the 320MB version.

It really depends on the resolutions you run your PC at. If you never see over 1280X1024 then it is a complete waste. If you run over 1600X1200 (1680X1050 for the widescreen guys) then the extra memory can be put to use.

Or 1920x1080 for the HD widescreen guys... I prefer 16:9, personally.

That is a good point though. It does make a much bigger difference at higher resolutions. It also depends on what games you're playing, as even some of the most intensive games out don't make much use of VRAM. Other, however, make major use of it.
