    Default Re: MSI N460GTX Hawk (1GB) Overclocking Results

    The posted Heaven minimum FPS figures appear to be inaccurate due to my testing method.
    I've tested by pressing F9 while Heaven is loading. All tests start with an initial jerky stutter and then run smoothly.
    I now let the program load and start, run for 5 seconds, and then press F9 which quickly restarts the benchmark at a somewhat higher "normal" frame rate.

    I've done a few quick DX11 tests and the minimum frame rates are more consistent.

    I can't run my 850MHz or higher DX11 NORMAL and EXTREME tests with the most recent 266.58 drivers.
    I might need to drop back to the 259.22 drivers to see if the problem is due to the current drivers.

    FWIW, I just noticed that the Heaven screen-shots display the driver version used in each test.
    See the attached picture where the driver version is displayed in the red box.

    I ran the Nvidia Endless City demo using 1920 x 1080 in AUTO-PILOT mode with disappointing results. Frame rates were decent, but the demo was too jerky.
    I think that this might be due to my cpu's limited 2MB L2 cache.
    Note: Nvidia recommends a 500 series video card for this test.

    Here's your homework assignment Neoroy, run several 10 - 15 minute Endless City demo tests at low, mid, and upper gpu settings and see if your quad cpu and higher overclock gives smooth results.

    Here are the DX11 900MHz benchmarks, NORMAL vs EXTREME tessellation using the 5 second delay before using PF9 to immediately restart the benchmark.

    Ok profjim, i will do myhome work thx :) but mymonitor only can 1600x1200 at max resolution, perhaps profjim may run it at lower resolution? maybe 1280x1024 or 1600x1024/900? sorry for my limited display ^_^
    Btw ur E6300 runs at 4.7ghz??? wow really impressive overclocking profjim :)

    Default Re: MSI N460GTX Hawk (1GB) Overclocking Results

    I've been running my tests using 1920 x 1080 to show the worst case results using a single monitor setup. My plan is to use 1680 x 1050 or 1600 x 900 monitor settings when I do some additional Heaven benchmarks. It will be interesting to see if I can overclock the video card somewhat higher with lower monitor resolutions. With the lower screen resolutions, I'm going to push the gpu memory overclock as high as possible.
    I'm also going to rerun the Endless Cities (AUTO-PILOT) test with the lower screen resolution.

    Ya, don't I wish that my E6300 cpu could run at 4.7GHz.
    A forum member explained this in my http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...-capacity.html thread where he said that this is a common bug where many software applications use the current FSB x the maximum cpu multiplier to calculate the cpu speed.

    In my case 450 FSB x 8.0 cpu multiplier = 3.60GHZ.
    450 x 10.5 = 4.725GHz.

    Heaven benchmark results using gpu = 900MHz, memory = 4000MHz (QDR) and screen resolution = 1600 x 900.

    All previous tests were with screen resolution = 1920 x 1080.

    Prof jim here my result at res. 1600x1200 with all setting default except for tessel : disabled, moderate, normal and extreme with my hawk at 900/2200 and i5 750 at 4ghz.
    Tessel Disabled :

    Tessel Moderate :

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

    Tessel Normal :

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

    Tessel Extreme :

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

    Hmmm weird min fps result profjim, just look at normal and moderate tessel.... normal is heavier than moderate right? but min fps normal is bigger than moderate, i think it should be : min fps normal tessel is lower than moderate.
    Btw first i ran normal tessel and then moderate, disabled and last extreme tessel.
    Note: Sorry for big pictures profjim ^_^ i havent convert them to low image...oops.

    Default Re: MSI N460GTX Hawk (1GB) Overclocking Results

    Thanks for sharing your results Neoroy.

    Very similar results, your 900/4400 settings versus my 900/4000 settings.
    My FPS and SCORES results are slightly better than yours.
    Your MIN and MAX results are slightly better than mine.

    It looks like cpu+ram doesn't really matter with Heaven DX11 benchmarks.

    ***EDIT*** I just noticed that your tests were run using 1600 x 1200.
    My tests were run using 1600 x 900 so our results really can't be compared.

    Your 4400 (QDR) gpu memory setting might be hurting your benchmark results.
    You might want to retest with 4000 - 4200 gpu memory settings to see if your results improve somewhat.

    I ran the Final Fantasy 14 benchmark at stock 780/3600 and 900/4000 settings, but there wasn't a large difference in scores; 2852 versus 3014, an improvement of only 5.7%.

    I'm looking for another good DX11 benchmark to use for further testing. I don't want to have to open accounts to run benchmarks.

    I've downloaded the Crysis Demo along with several patches and enhancements from Gaming News | Game Reviews | Game Videos | Downloads |Mods | FileFront.

    Nearly all gpu reviews use higher end cpu/ram/mobo setups.
    My goal in this thread to is show what a good gpu card can do with an somewhat older system.

    E6300 (R0) cpu
    P35-DS3L mobo
    Mushkin XP2-8500 ram

    We haven't heard back from Darkje in a while.
    I guess his DX11 envy was just too much for him to deal with.

    Hmm yup i forgot profjim use 1600x900 i will retest again if i can find ur resolution :)
    and i think 4400 gpu memory setting is too heavy i will try 4200 since its stable with default voltage for memory. Darkje is not around i wonder too where is he now? maybe busy with his procie? or upgrading?

    Cryostasis Tech Demo Benchmark Results
    Test options:
    • Physics using Hardware; using Software resulted in unacceptable viewing
    • Quality presets = low, medium, and high
    • Screen resolution = 1600 x 900
    • DX10 used, DX9 testing was not used
    Some of the results are a bit puzzling.

    I need to figure out how to enable benchmark testing for Crysis and Dirt 2.
    Crytools was installed but has "issues".

    Made some progress with Dirt 2 benchmarks using:
    settings name="morocco_trail" route="route_0"
    gpu = 780MHz, memory = 3600MHz (QDR)
    average min_fps=48.88 -- av_fps=63.47 -- min_fps_ms=20.45 -- av_fps_ms=15.75
    ================
    gpu = 900MHz, memory = 4000MHz (QDR)
    average min_fps=46.77 -- av_fps=61.04 -- min_fps_ms=21.38 -- av_fps_ms=16.38
    ================
    gpu = 920MHz, memory = 4200MHz (QDR)
    average min_fps=39.84 -- av_fps=60.51 -- min_fps_ms=25.09 -- av_fps_ms=16.52

    Results are not what I expected.
    I need to check further to see how to select DX9 versus DX11 tests.

    Anyone know where the BENCHMARKS button in the GRAPHICS option is located?
