    Thumbs up MSI N460GTX Hawk (1GB) Overclocking Results

    **edit** Check out my adventure with adding VRM heatsinks to the Hawk, starting with post #55.
    **edit** SLI testing begins with moving the Hawk card to an N650SLI-DS4 motherboard and adding an N460GTX Hawk Talon Attack card in post #111. The E6550 cpu in the N650SLI-DS4 is replaced with an E6850 cpu running at 3.30GHz (stable) in post #125.

    Minor upgrade from my 7600GT to the Hawk
    My best overclock after a few days of tweaking is 935/1870/4400 stable for Missy Hawk.
    Additional benchmarks will follow once I have installed Win7 on my soon to arrive SSD.
    oZone3D Furmark also passed a 10 minute test without artifacts.

    ATI Tool has problems with PSAPI.DLL on my w2k system, so I couldn't let it scan for artifacts. ;(

    I'm a newb when it comes to graphics overclocking, so suggestions are welcome when it comes to stability testing, "best" benchmarking demos, etc.

    Hi prof jim well i tried memory at 2200 and scanning artifact with ATItool using +40mv for vmemory got errors/beeping sound at 2minutes so i raised to +50mv then test again with ATItool and result is stable for +20minutes and i stoped ... i guess its stable vmemory at 2200 for my hawk.
    Gpu clock 900mhz also passed ATItool scanning artifact for +20minutes but gaming was different story, my little brother has often freeze during playing lost planet2 ... maybe mypsu not strong enough.
    So for perfect stable daily gaming i'm running clock at 875/2100 without adding voltages how about ur card prof jim? do u have freezing while gaming at 900mhz or more? especially at DX11 game.

    My windows 2000 system limits which benchmarks I can run.
    My new OCZ SSD (60GB E model) arrived today, so I'll be installing win7 x64 shortly and will then be able to run some real graphics benchmark demos using DX9 - DX11. I'm not a gamer, but I plan to run flight simulators or games that have nice scenery.

    ***Edit*** Currently using MSI AfterBurner version 2.10 beta 5. Allowable voltage adjustment ranges are unchanged.
    ***EDIT2*** Version 2.1 didn't work well with win 7, see the beginning of post #5 for more information.

    Once win7 is installed, I'll be running and posting additional results.

    Yup those are weird result profjim, hope u manage to instal windows 7 x64 :) at 935 clock it should had higher result than lower clock. Btw if u wanna higher adding volts then profjim should try afterburner 2.0.0 beta7 but before instal it , profjim must change windows date back to July or August then run afterburner 2.0.0 beta 7 and u will see for gpu core can add up to +200mv :)

    There were major stability issues with modest overclocks (800 - 900MHz gpu) using the Afterburner 2.10 package.
    Using the 2.00 Afterburner package, higher overclocks were no problem.

    Thats weird profjim i think its abug, i've never notice that. Btw i use Afterburner 2.0.0 beta7 and managed hit 955mhz in 3DMark 2011, vgpu added +160mv

    I think 3DMark 2011 is really stressing DX11 cards but vantage is not too heavy because its only stressing DX9, right? my friend use hawk manage to hit 980mhz but only with vantage.

    A couple of Hawk review sites felt that MSI would have too many RMAs to deal with because owners would use the higher gpu voltages (above +100mv) for extended periods so that their fermi cards would run close to or above 1GHz using these higher gpu voltages.

    One site mentioned a voltage override switch on the back of the Hawk card that apparently almost instantaneously fried the card when it was enabled.
    It's on the back of my card, but has a clear plastic glued on cover that won't let you easily enable the switch.
    If you want to be scared of something, DON'T PLAY WITH THIS SWITCH!! You've been warned....
