Hey all. This is my first post here, and i like teh look and attitude of these forums.

I'm looking for a new video card to replace my ageing GF2MX400. I am looking at either an ATi Radeon 8500LE (on a Hercules 3D Prophet 128mb card) or a Gigabyte Maya 2 9500 (pro?)

I have heard that these cards are a bit cheaper than a GF4 Ti4200 in most cases, so, i have decided upon one of these. I would basically like to know what cards i have available to me. I am looking for a card which i should not have to upgrade for another 5 years, has VGA, and DVI out (also capabiity to have 2 monitors, one on VGA and one on DVI with adapter) I am not really into overclocking video cards, but I will always have a bit of a go. :flames:

Now, i would like AGP 8x, as i hear that as games become more developed for it, it will really shine over AGP 4X. But it doesnt really worry me. I think i have pretty much outlined what i am looking for. But now comes teh determining factor. I do not want to pay over $400 for a video card. So obviously, a 9700Pro is outta my reach As i have seen that teh GF$ti4200 are around $350, and ppl have said 8500 is generally cheaper, thats what i want to go for. Plus i have a soft spot for ATi. (dunno why, i have never used one, i just like being different i suppose)

Anyway, enought b!tching, i will now sit back and wait for your suggestions. I will thankyou all very much in advance.

    Thanx in advance:cheers:

Firstly it maybe an idea to let us know what hardware setup ya have already (in case of incompatibilities) plus where ya from will help us know what currency ya talkin' about. ;)

Welcome to this place, pull up a chair, a and enjoy. :devil win

hmmm. Well i have been tipped off by some1 that once GF FX is released, ATi's prices will drop quite dramtically in an attempt to keep teh 9700PRO and lower models still better performing for their price against teh new nVidia range. I have been hinted that teh 9500 may end up being teh same price as current 8500LE's. If they are, thasts what i'll buy, even if a 9500 is $50 more than a 8500LE, i still think thats a darn good deal. Especially considering ATi will do some other nice things to teh card to make them even more pleasing to teh end user. Cheers to ATi, and every1 who has helped:cheers:
