Dammit I want 256MB it's of RAM! but I don't know if I can wait till April. Ugh!

And AIW 256 would be killer, especailly if you could also soft mod it into a FireGl :D

Do the upgrade plan at CompUSA! When you buy one there, it'll be like $35 bones to trade it in for the 256meg model when it comes out. That's what I am going to do. :)

Call them on the phone and get details, or go into local branch and talk to the people at the customer service desk. It's not posted anywhere on their site, I don't think, but it's just one of those things that gets spread via word of mouth. I have a friend here at the office that has been doing this since the Riva TNT and now has a 9700 Pro. It's the real deal. :)

Well, it may be more than $35 bucks, or maybe a percentage of the price of the upgrade item, but when my work buddie did it last, he went from a ti4600 to a 9700 Pro and paid right around that price for it. I have seen other people post messages about this deal on rage3d's message boards, so, double sanity check with myself! ok! ;) I am not sure if it is a "per store" type of thang, which it could be I suppose, but I think it's all of them. So, if it does come down to it, I can take your naughty words!! ;)

I searched around Rage3D forums. The deal is that supposedly you can by a warranty which allows you to return it in two years no questions asked.

Will have to check up on this. Could be pretty cool. :D

ok, I just talked to my buddie about this. He said that it's not a plan per say, but people can just come in and return the current card for a newer model, saying that that you got it as a gift and didn't like it (you must have ALL of the original packaging). At that point you can say you'd rather have the 9800 Pro instead and they'll charge you a 20 percent repackaging fee; that's pretty much it. There is a maintenace plan you can buy there which allows you free replacement with "no questions asked". You can use that to work your way into a newer card also. Sorry for talking about stuff I didn't have the hard facts on. I guess this is just another way of manipulating return policies for your benefit.

    Wait a sec...

If one buys the 9800 Pro w/128 MB of RAM for about $400

and then in April comes back and does the was a present/don't like it...

    and upgrade to a 9800 Pro w/256

You would pay 20% restocking which would be $80 and then pay the difference of about $100 bucks, you'll end up paying $180!

I think, if I can wait, I'll wait for the 256 MB version and get the coverage that will let me return it, no questions asked in 2 years.(if that is the plan) Then I could get a new card for a fraction of the price within 2 years!!!

Hmm... will definitly have to check on this. If I can do that with all the components for a comp maybe I'll end up paying the extra money and buy everything from compusa.

Hmmm..... will need to double check this though. Never thought I would buy from them again.
