ok.. i just decided to replace my ol radeon 8500.

ill probably need opinion on which is the better buy.. a GF4 or a Radeon.

and are there any differences on performance depending on what brand you buy? e.g. albatron, chaintek, msi, sapphire, etc..

im trying to limit myself on a budget of $300 (U.S. dollars).

Well, for $300 you can get a Radeon 9700 Pro (OEM), which is the best bang for your buck at your price range, IMHO. Just get a regular old ATi brand one, 'cause that'll be the best price. I just did a quick www.pricewatch.com search and they are running about $270 for the power color brand one. Power Color makes OEM cards for ATI (I am pretty darn sure), so that's a good one to get. If you want to save a lot more $$ then you might try and MSI GeForce4 ti4800se, a nice card for over $100 less than the ATi. It won't perform as well as the ATi, but you get what you pay for. The other two you mentioned in your post are good also. Well, I hope that gets you pointed in a good direction. peace...

Well since you have a Radeon 8500 you won't find much of a difference when getting a Geforce 4 Ti. I advise you get a Radeon 9700 or 9500 pro. They will last longer with their directx 9 support and you will notice the performance increase especially when you turn AA and AF on.:thumb:
