It's been 3 years and 6 months, the lifespan of my HP CD-RW. It's done a few CDs in it's time. But now it's time for a new one, I had a few options in mind, either get a CD-RW or spend just a little more on a DVD-RW.
For CD-RW I had these in mind:

    Sony CRX220E1 52x24x52 CD Writer

    ASUS CRW-5224A (ASUS 52X/24X/52X CD-ReWriter)
    LG GCE-8520B 52x24x52 CDRW

    For DVD-RW:

    Panasonic LF-D521E

    Pioneer DVR-A05P DVD-R/RW & CD-R/RW

I'm not really worried about speed since the HP I had was 8x 4x 32x and I thought that compared to 32x speed burners there wasn't a big margin apart from 3-4 mins. One thing I'm trying to look for is quality and the ability to read disk that are slightly scratched. :blah:

just got a lite-on 52x24x52 drive (LTR-52246S) and tis excellent a bit noisy but never mind, it even reads most of one of my audio discs with a huge scrach along it. and much better than the HP cd-rw i've got.
ooo and it comes bundled with nero which is always a plus.

I find the lite-on to be a lot quieter than LG drives, plus they come with nero, the LG come with Nero-Express.

Plextor would be my choice :thumb:

Just read the review on the lite-on 52x24x52 "fastest drive" : peace2: all I hear so far is good stuff about it. But I was heading towards a DVD RW which would be my second choice, cause DVD RWs aren't all that expensive and I was planning to get one in the near future anyway. :devil win

I guess I'll use my mates CD-RW at the time and wait a little longer for the prices to drop down and CD-RW speeds to go up.

    i own a Liteon 40x12x48 burner...absolutely brilliant..

ive only ever had one coaster out of about 100+...and that was when a bit of a sudden BIG vibration in the room.

    i burn at 40x and only 40x, done in 2.5min max...works a charm :thumb:

I've got both the LiteOn 52x and the Pioneer 4x2 DVD burner, and both work great. I recommend either one.
