US drives=cyberdrive, had a 16xdvd drive from that company. It lasted 2 months. Then turned into a paperweight. Very generic. They dishonered the warranty as well.

HEY, RELAXXXXXXXXX TWEAKER........... WHO DIED AND SAID YOU WERE THE GAMING FORUM MASTER.
This A)Isn't a gaming forum,
B)Is a cool place because all kinds of people from all walks of life around the world can exchange ideas and opinions.
MINE is that I like them BETTER!

Chez : peace2:

I was speaking to some of the OLD packard bell 14" crts. I AGREE the NEW 19"s and above Flat screens are nice(and better performance wise, albeit by a SMALL margin), if that is what you are looking for.

well, two things you overlooked. How the heck can a monitor have better performance? Are you talking about frame rates at high resolutions? Who has their desktop set at more than 1024x768? Or what video card can provide great performance at more than 1600x 1200 (a 9800 or a 5900 start to slow there with FSAA and Anisotrophic filtering on)? Just a thought... Also, flat screens wash out wicked bad, worse than CRT monitors. If you have any kind of sunlight coming into your comp room, that can be a problem at certain times of the day, even if you do close the drapes. Anyways, this shouldnt turn into a debate about monitors, lets focus on the man's question ^^ :thumb: . : peace2: Mista K6

I run my 19" LCD at 1280x1024.

How the heck can a monitor have better performance? Are you talking about frame rates at high resolutions?
Frame rates are referring to video cards.

Pixel Pitch 0.294mm (H) × 0.294mm (V)
Contrast Ratio 500:1 (typical)
Brightness 250 cd/m2
Response Time 30ms

Recommended Resolution:1280x1024 @ 60Hz

For the items listed in bold, these items all make up the "performance" of an LCD. So YES, monitors do and can have better performance based on these items. Together they can make a big difference in the output of what you see. Including ghosting, and others things...
i
Don't know what you mean about "washout". If you have a problem with drapes, then maybe you could move your set-up so you don't have that problem.
My home office is always set-up so I don't have the sun shining from behind me, so I never have an issue with glare.

Everyone has their own likes and dislikes. Some like Maxtor, some don't. Some like CRT's, some don't. (soon they probably won't even be making them anymore, just like vinyl)

The bottom line is we ALL HAVE SOMETHING IN COMMON, A LOVE FOR COMPUTERS. Along with this forum and the exchange of information and knowledge.

The only thing overlooked was the respect for everyone to have their own opinions...

Chez

A good debate is good. Knowledge is exchanged, gained, and shared...

yah, I totally aggree. And I just searched online, seems you can beat alot of those prices (if they are usd) just by going to sites such as www.newegg.com or www.googlegear.com . Many times they even have free shipping :thumb: . Also, you run your monitor @ 60hz? Dont you eyes bother you mate? I have mine at 1024x768 @ 100hz. anyways, : peace2: Mista K6

I think the Thread forgot he made a thread...i would go for AMD as i sarcastically suggested. I see flat screens very cool..and great for spreadsheets and stuff..but i would rather go with a Flat screen CRT monitor...i have a 19" viewsonic Flat screen (not flat panel) for 250 very nice black and all...goes well with my system scheme. I do have to say tho...they really are good at not straining your vision.

Also, Chez i think Tweaker was just playing around...he really isn't that type...at least at TT.

BTW i have my res at 1600x1200 @ 85 Hertz...

Mista,
You don't understand how a CRT works and how a LCD works. They are totally different.
It is too hard to explain in laymans terms. But the refresh rates are totally different for LCDs. You can't BURN an image on an LCD like you can a CRT. They are TOTALLY different technologies.
I suggest reading up on how a CRT works with the 3 "guns" it uses to make the colors/images on the screen, and how an LCD uses TRANSISTORS that switch to change the colors. That is why your eyes don't bother you.
Also, have you seen a CRT monitor when you see it on TV? What about an LCD? You can see the LCD, the CRT has the refresh lines, because they are being "reshot"="refreshed".

The bottom line is they are two totally different technologies.
Not to be mean, but before you go jumping the gun on something, learn a little about what you are speaking of.

And those #'s where copied and pasted from newegg on an lcd monitor there, and that was the suggested viewing size, and refresh rate.
Mine is set the same, except at 85mhz.
Chez

Just out of curiosity, don't you think all those people that work on laptops all day would be crying their eyes out if the refresh rates had the same strain on the eyes as a CRT. Just a little something to think about.........

A good magazine to subscribe to, to learn all about computers and how everything works from the innerds or a harddrive, to how an LCD is made, that a byte is 8 bits, the difference between Fat16, Fat 32, and NTFS and how they store information differently (in blocks of 4kbs to 8kbs to 16kbs) what binary code is, ect. to anything you can imagine about computers is Smartcomputing.com. They are GREAT. I read everyone of them. The wealth of knowledge is amazing when you put it all together.
