you will struggle to play the games these days...not on any half decent quality.

you would be able to give battlefield 1942, enemy territory and the like, but not too well.

i agree, invest in some more SDRAM for the time being...it will make a big difference, and try and get some more kick out of your CPU & video card by overclocking.

i used to have a kt7a, with a duron 600 and managed to get it to about 936mhz stable...you should be able to get a bit more out of yours.

Well, only o/c if you know what you're doing somewhat; you dont wanna blow up your only system :scream: . However, if you're gonna build a new PC, wait till just b4 X-mas: everything drops like crazy , especially RAM and video cards. IMHO, this would be a great (hypothetical) system for your situation (I used AMD-based cause it's alot less expensive):

    2500+ Barton ($88)
    Volcano 7+ ($25)
    nForce2 mobo. (around $70-$75)
2x 256MB DDR400 RAM (Corsair platinum will do the trick) ($136)
    40GB Maxtor @ ATA 133 ($55)
    Radeon 9600 Pro ($140-$170)
    W/e case ya want, + DVD-ROM's, CD-RW's, etc

You can probably get it all for about $600usd, and that'll run current games easily. The prices I quoted are for right now, so you know they'll drop even more when X-mas comes :thumb: .

Just to explain the system, you overclock the Barton to hit 400FSB, and run it 1:1 sync with the RAM = great performance. W/e mobo you buy for options is fine, but you should be able to stay in that range. That Corsair RAM is great, runs at 2-3-3 and it perfect for what you need. The Maxtor drive @ ATA 133 (make sure you get a mobo that runs at ATA133) are as close to SATA speed (150) w/ half the price tag; look at my PCMark2002 HDD score, and that's with games and what not on it. The Radeon 9600 Pro (supports DX9, 400mhz GPU clock, 600mhz RAM clock) is a great buy at only $150(ish). Get one with good cooling so you can o/c the hell out of, and buy some RAM sinks ($5) to make it go further. If you wanna go overboard, get a second 40GB Maxtor; use one for games, the other for everything else, this is the way I set up my comp. THat way your system stuff doesnt kill your games performance (although I doubt using just one drive you'd see any loss in performance). Also, salvage stuff from your other system (floppy drive, CD Drives) If you have a really old CD Drive, ya might wanna buy a 16x DVD-ROM, they're like $35. Finally, for a case, buy one with many fans and w/ a 350w or at most 400w Power supply. Anyways, go where ya want, but I think that's a really great and inexpensive system that'll have you playing new games with ease and joy. Hope the details helped, : peace2: Mista K6

Mista K6 is tellin it the way it is.:thumb:
If what he was suggesting is an idea for you, the gfx card, case, and cdrw/dvd drives would be good even sooner. And still more ram for now. Even 128 scavenged would do until then.

As for the xp2400 vs xp2500, it doesnt work that way. Either xp2400 for max on a 266 fsb board or xp2500 min on a 333 fsb board. With one exception, xp2600 for 266 fsb but one probably can't be found.
edit: If someone knows of of xp2600/266fsb for sale in Canada, post a link.
