    Hey guys,

    Abit Kt7 motherboard
    SDRAM 256mb
    Geforce 2mx 400 64mb
    Quantum 20gb 5400rpm

Which one should i upgrade first? Cpu+mobo or VGA? or postpone both and just upgrade my harddrive for now?
Currently im playing counterstrike at most, sometimes other games too. but im also lookin forward to playin doom3 and halflife 2 in the near future.
Dont have enough dough to spend it all at once.

    Thanks for ur help. :)

you are better off keeping your current system the way it is, and saving up and getting a whole new one.

if you get a new mobo+cpu, u will need ram as well so there is a bit of more money u need, about $500 AU should cover it. however if you go down this path then you are stuck with a video card that uses SDRAM and a system that uses DDR, making your gaming not much better at all.

you will be right to get a new hard drive if u like, but if you can make do with your 20gb then id save your money and get a whole new box.

neat! i never thought of that idea. thx heap...
my options of upgrade were xp2500+,nforce mobo, ddr 512mb

    and/or ati9500pro or 9700pro.

but not sure if those upgrade will handle doom3 or hl2 smoothly

in september the 64 bit amd processor comes out so the prices of the currnt athlon chips should drop and i think in december ati and nvidia are releasing new graphics cards so my advice would be to wait and then get slightly older parts which have just dropped in price

your computer right now is just lilke the computers at my net cafe. ur sytem is alreay pretty stable. but if u can,, try go Oc (thats if u can) to 900mhz.

What type of SDram u using? if it is pc133, i would reccommend spending around 50 bcks to get 1 more stick of256mb pc133.

Then, wait for few yearrs,, and buy or build a new computer.

Smokin_pc is right. 256mb is not enough. And any amount you add to that 256 will make a bigger than expected difference. But a few years seems like too long to hold out..

what he can also do, is make a bigger upgrade, by upgradeing to pc2700 512 ram, and getting a new moboo (like a epox 8rda+ which sells for 85 us i believe). Then, sence in late sept the new athlon 64's ar coming it, the price will drop a bit. then, u can get a 2400+ or a 2500+ if u want.

but just stick with ur system for now, withth ram upgrade, and wait tiill late sept.

so basically from all of those components that critical thing that i lack of is the SDRAM?

all i want is a decent comp that can play current existing game sin the market before doom3 and hl2 come out.

    my ram is pc133.

    thx for the infos
    :)
