Hello! I am planning to make some upgrades to my system and I wanted to see what everyone thinks I should get.

Things that I have and want to upgrade from:
    Intel Pentium IV 1.7 GHZ
1024 mb single band RAM (crappy kind)
Geforce 4 MX 440 64 MB Graphics Card
don't know what kind of motherboard...compaq?

Ok. First, what is the difference in the speed of DDRAM and regular ram? If it is huge, I want to be able to use DDRAM. What can I upgrade so I can use this type of RAM?
Also, I play a lot of video games. Are there any suggested upgrades to the computer?

Well the first thing your gonna need to do is get a new motherboard. Also, do you want to stay with Intel or get an AMD system, and approx what budget for the upgrades?

DDR= Double Data Rate so if ya have PC133 SDRAM and PC2100 (both rated to run at 133MHz) then the PC2100 has twice the bandwidth of the PC133.

    P4 2.4C
    ASUS P4P800 Deluxe
2x PC3500 or better fast memory
    GF4 Ti4200 or better
And if that Compaq case is a mATX one then another case (and likely PSU) will be needed.

Either Intel or AMD can work quite well, largely its personal preference. I would second Wiggo's suggestion of a P4 2.4C and a P4P800 Deluxe mobo as well as the RAM. With a $400 budget you may have to stick with ur current vid card for a little while longer
