If you want to save money yes, buy mobo and memory and oc your 1600+ would be fine.

What is your overall budget? Not just for the mobo, but for everything, how much do you want to spend on this upgrade?

200 is really pushing it for cpu/mobo/ram, so what I would do is go buy a new mobo, 100 some bucks, anything from an Epox 84rda3+ to an Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe, with a Abit NF7-S in between.

With that Id get 2x256mb of pc3200 or pc3500 RAM (depending on how much you plan to O/C, 3200 is fine for a 200 mhz FSB, which is standrard to O/C a 2500 barton to at least a 200 FSB)
The GEIL dual channel sets have great timings for the cost, and have been getting pretty good reviews. So get whatever the max you think you might be pushing the FSB to.

You can get the mobo and RAM for right around 200 bucks. So Id get that, and plug in the 1600 till you get a job (even though the board would be doing no where near its performance)

Then once you scrape another 100 bucks or so together, get yoruself a Barton 2500+ with a decent Heatsink, I like the Thermaltake 7+ cuz its cheap and effective (kinda loud though)

Thats about the best you can do to have good performance on a decent budget
