My bro wants me to make him a new comp and im pretty much good with everything but the vid card. I'm not sure which one would be best. I'd like it to be a high performance one for less than $200. i was thinking maybe the ATI 9800SE but i havent really researched any cards yet and i'm wondering what you guys think.

Doom3 and hl2 might not even use the full memory.

SE stands for "Spastic Edition" and shouldn't be thought about. The core used is one that didn't make the grade for a proper R9800np so its not only clocked slower but has 4 of its renderin' pipelines disable (most likely due to manufacturin' faults within those piplines). Its memory bus has also been cut in half (from 256bit down to 128bit) and it uses much slower memory. In fact the R9600P and R9600XT are faster than it (and both of those are well in ya price range).

9700 NP or Pro depending on the price but thats the fastest you can get around the $200 range.

I would get this 9700 Pro, it's only $206 and will perform much better than the 9600 XT.
