Right now i have an Athlon XP 1800+ and i really want to upgrade but what should i get? Right now on newegg the proccessors cost about,

    3200+ is $207
    3000+ is $199
    2800+ is $136
    2500+ is $85

The reviews say that the 3200+ processor is a waste of money and that the 2500+ can OC to 3200+.

    What do you think?

I agree, in many cases the 2500+ will OC to 3200+ speeds without a problem :thumb:
I've gone too far and need to move on!

If ya can get the XP2500+ or XP2800+ with production dates that are b4 week 39 '03 then they'll be able to overclock with both multiplier and FSB but after that date then most likely you'll be restricted to the FSB alone as AMD locked the multiplier function (though some XP2500+'s will go to the 200MHz FSB with just a bit of extra voltage and not require the multiplier to be dropped). If this seems to much of a gamble for ya but ya want top performance then get one of the other 2.

I say 2800+, slightly more consistent overclocker than the 2500+.

But you guys are missing the point of the 3200+. What that gives you is AMD's top quality silicon, and will clock the highest of all.

what sort of a heatsink will i need in order to keep the thing cool when i overclock? I have a TT Volcano 9 and its a piece of junk with my 1800+. The thing is extremely loud and it is already running at 40 degrees.

Pick up something from Thermalright or Swiftech.
