Well if we benchtested both our minds your's would be regarded as "very poor", just from observations on your posts maybe even worse than that.

KoolDrew, if you don't want a router then get a switch (hubs have very poor performance due to a lot of packet collisions) but Cat5E cables are all you should need. Your friend who told you to get another network card for better internet speeds obviously doesn't know what he's talking about but if you don't want a router then make sure that your mainboard has 2 nics as your internet will have to connect to your PC first before connecting to a switch or just a crossover cable if you're only going to connect 2 PC's (a switch if more than 2).
As for the nForce3 250 I can't comment on a price yet but the chipset was released earlier this month so mainboards based on it should be on sale very soon (AnandTech reviewed an MSI Neo Platinum a few days back).
Most DVD burners now will also burn CD's but if you want two drives then Lite-On makes very good ones but be sure that the DVD burner is a multi-format version though dual layer ones should also be on the market next month.
Arctic Silver is a thermal paste that that is applied between the HSF and the processor for better heat transfer between the 2.

Can you give me alink to a good DVD burner and a CD burner. The reason I didn't want a combo drive is because some people have told me to get two different ones and I have realized that the combo drives burn CD-R's and CD-RW's at lower speeds then if you were to just have a CD burner. So I want 2 different drives and the highest read and write speeds there asre unless it would be too expensive.

Also can you give me a link to an....'

    1. LCD Monitor (at least 17" but would like to be bigger)
    2. A Keyboard (with all the cool keys at the top for email, internet, volume etc. Do not want a cordless one though)
    3. Mouse (I want one without those stupid balls like normal ones have but I dont want a cordless one)
    4. Also surround sound speakers (Im not sure if the onboard sound card will handle it but I think it should, not too expensive either)
    5. Could you also give me a link to that Arctic Silver stuff because I found it but I theres a couple different kinds and I don't know what I need

P.S. I love Tweaktown.com I have been coming to this site for years for guides for Windows XP qand stuff, but thats all I came for was guides for Windows XP. I never actually came to the foprums, but when I did I realized how great this forum is. You guys have been alot of help, keep it up! The forum does need some more people though. I don't see manyu people on it at a time.

if you think TT is good now you should have seen it before everyone left, when the forums still looked good and worked well.

Can someone give ma a link to some of this stuff? Could someone also tell me if it matters what kind of power strip thing I get to hook a whole bunch of things to one outlket. Heres a few http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...ge=1&CatId=232. Does it matetr what one I get because some say how many joules of power it has. So do I ned one with alot to plug my power supply into since it is 420 wats?

And do you guys think this case http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...133-104&depa=0 is better then http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...144-018&depa=0. What one do you guys think I should get?

OK I think I have everything I want but before I go otu and by it all I want to make sure with you guys that

    1. I will be able to upgrade later without any probleams because right now I am not buyiung the really expensove parts because I will upgrade some stuff like from a Radeon 9800 Pro to a XT and some other things like the processor to a FX

    2. Will everything work with eachother and work wiht future upgrade?

    3. Is all the parts what you suggest? If it isnt tell me what I should get

    4. Will I gett eh best performance I possibl;y can with this budget?

    5. Will it be cool enough for now and future upgrades?

    6. Will everything handle this and future upgrades (including PSU, which i'll probaly just upgrade)

OK heres all the parts I picked out..(click them there links)

    AMD Athlon 64 3200+
Mushkin Dual Pack 184 Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-4000
ZALMAN CNPS7000A-Cu Pure Copper CPU Cooler
Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000RPM SATA Hard Drive
    ASUS K8T800 Chipset Motherboard
    ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
LINKSYS Instant Broadband EtherFast Cable/DSL Router
Alpha Digital 25ft Cat 6 Blue Cable
    Arctic Silver 5
Mitsumi Black 1.44MB 3.5inch Floppy Disk Drive
    Logitech Elite Keyboard USB/ PS/2 104keys
    Logitech MX500 Optical Mouse USB/ PS/

Thats everything except for the speakers, monitor, power thing (to plug the stuff all into one outlet), DVD and CD burners. The speakers and monitors I w3ill get laetr because the monitor I already have has speakers built int he front so I dont need them just yet. But Is till need a DVD burner and CD burner and I want 2 seperate drives and they should be the highest read and write speeds possible.

If I should change anything above then tell me because I dont want to buy it and want to return my money because I dont want it. Also I want the computer to handle future upgrades so I dont have to buy a whole bunch of other stuff just to upgrade something else

Ansd is there anything else I need to build the computer besides the stuff above since I am building ti from scratch. The only stuff I am using from the old computer is the mkonitor until I buy a new o0ne because they are pretty expensive.

And will my computer be as quite as possible without decreasing performance

also remember i want the computer to be really good to upgrade later. REally good for the long run. so the motherboard has to be good

Well if you want an Athlon64-FX upgrade path then you'll have to wait until the socket 939 mainboards are out (should be in June, 64's atm are socket 754 while FX's are socket 940) and then the nForce3 250 will be the chipset to go with.

k thanks ill get he nforrce when it comes out then, but is everything else good rigth? So I will be able to upgrade fine later fine? I dont need anymore cooling or anything like that right? The PSU wil, handle it too?

and I also stuill need a CD and DVD burner at the highest read and write speeds posible and I dont want a combo drive

Also tell me if it matters what kind of power strip thing I get to hook a whole bunch of things to one outlket. Heres a few http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...ge=1&CatId=232. and is the case good or should i get this one http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...33-104&depa=0? Does it matter? I see that this one has 7 fans, fan control and is pretty big so I think it would be good for future upgrading when I need better cooling and stuff. What do you think? Should I get this one or the other one? It dopesn't look like this one comes with as PSU though so I'll have to buy another

The nForce 3 250 is already out, what you would want to wait for is socket 939.

    Get PC-3500, not PC-4000.
    http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...146-294&depa=0
You will see lower performance with that PC-4000. The PC-3500 has lower CAS latency.

No need to spend $20 on a floppy drive. :D

If you end up getting an FX processor or maybe a PCI-express video card, getting a more powerful PSU, somewhere around 550W (like the Antec I linked to) would be best. The 420W should cut it for an AGP card and regular A64, though.

The case you just linked to is good. A little on the expensive side, but quite good if you've got the money.

Other than that, looks good. When the socket 939 motherboards/processors come out, get an nForce 3 250GB (GB = with gigabit ethernet) motherboard with on-board SATA, RAID, audio, dual channel support, etc.

Thanks I still need a CD and a DVD burner though that are at the highest read and write speeds posible and I dont want a combo drive.

Just about any DVD burner will be a combo job as I've already stated plus why not go the right way and get a proper UPS instead of a surge protector as an UPS will do the same job plus more.
