I went and checked out drives at Newegg a while back and I remember finding this as one of the best:

You can look for better on your own if you want to.

I just asked question about HCL and no one seems to bother about this. Since I'm about to purchase and build my third system I'm do this first before I generate any conflicts within the hardware. I would suggest you do this before you spend any $.

Ya I dont like combo drives because I have never found a combo thqat can read and write a DVD at 4x and CD's at 52x. So if someone can give me a link to two different ones that will do this (which will probaly not be a combo) that woudl be appreciated.

There's no hardware compatibility list. The hardware has to be compatible with Windows, not the other way around. Anything you find on Newegg that doesn't say otherwise should be compatible with Windows. You have to make sure your hardware is compatable with your other hardware, but that's pretty much just for RAM, motherboards, and processors. You don't want an Athlon 64 motherboard if you have a Pentium 4. Just pay atttention to socket types on that stuff and you should be fine.

Yes, of course. You would have to do something like try to get a Pentium 4 motherboard for an Athlon XP system. It's really easy not to do this as the motherboards (at Newegg and other sites) list what socket they use and what processors should work with them and what kind of RAM they use. The processors will also list what socket they are as will RAM. You have to be completely ignorant to buy hardware that isn't "compatible."

How many fans did the case you ere getting have? Was it six? I don't think you would really need any more cooling than that. Beyond that would just be to overclock it a little more than you already will be able to. A HDD cooler would be cheap, and certainly help, so if you find a nice, cheap, quiet one, you might as well get it.

As long as the case has decent cooling, you'll be fine.
