I'm currently looking for a new laptop. If any of you out there would like to give me any advise, things to watch out for, brands they would recommend, brands they wouldnt recomment, etc, any info would be great!

I'm looking for something around the 1.2gig+ processor, 128, but most probably 256 of ddr ram, min of a 20 gig, 40 would be a preference. They are the min requirments i'm looking for.

This is just going to be used as a secondary protable comp, I want to be able to do some web work on the road + numerous other tasts, so it has to be able to use photoshop and dreamweaver (maybe not ps cs as it needs alot of resources, it would be nice to have the option of the upgrade though).

I'm wanting to spend around the 1500$AU mark (can go more, but i want good reason to do so)

Am i being realistic? Also, whats the word on celeron in laptops, i notice that the 2.2gig cpu seems to be roughly the same price as say a 1.4gig amd (of course there are many variences in price as each laptop has diff hardware).

Any help would be grealy appreciated! :D

An Athlon XP with much lower clock speed can be faster than a Celeron with much higher clock speed...

Anyway, I don't know if eMachines ships to Australia, but...
    http://www.emachines.com/products/pr...Machines_M2105
That's pretty close to $1500 AU. I hope you don't want to play games with it, though...
A good reason to spend more:

    Here's something else, already AU:

If you want to look for more on your own, brands I wouldn't reccomend:
    Gateway
    Hewlett-Packard

First of all amd and intel cpu's cannot be compared by mhz. 128mb of ram will get you nowhere.
Definately blah on the hp and gateway.

I got stuck with a totally useless(perfectly functioning the way it is suposed to) dell laptop, it cant do anything, takes 14 hours to install win98se, cant run any games at all(not even junky stuff like 3d pinball, quake1, or flight simulator for win95), the powersaving option can't be used since it turns the machine off before it gets to the desktop(yes it takes that long to boot)
Basically you get the idea, $1000 would be bad investment and a major waste of money with a modern day version of this laptop from hell. Luckily the family member who was mislead into buying this only payed $200cdn. Just trying to help, so do lots of research and shop around.
