Default Trying To Build A PC, Need Some Advice

This is the first time i've attemted to build a PC. I'm hoping I can find a PC that shows me how to put this together. I'm building a computer for gaming and web design. I'm looking to spend under $1,000. Here are some things i'm thinking of buying.

    Processor: Intel Pentium 4 2.6 GHZ/512K Cache/400MHz FSB/Socket 478/Processor
    I found it for $159.99

    Motherboard: Asus P4SGX-MX
    I found it for $56.00

    Memory: 512 MB 400MHz DDR (PC3200) DIMM CL3
    I found it for $75.00

Case: PlusView1000AMG Metallic Gray SOHO File Server
    I found it for $99.99

I need to find a hard drive, DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive, graphics card, monitor, speakers, audio, floppy drive, and any suggestions on what I listed above.

    Thanks,
    WarDragon

You'd be much better off with an
    P4 2.4C $167usd (HyperThreading enabled plus a good overclocker)
ASUS P4P800SE $95usd (dual channel memory plus a good overclocker)
and 2 sticks of memory (CAS2 would be better) if you can
    Lite-On Combo drive $47usd
WD JB 40GB $58.50usd or WD JB 80GB$61.95usd
    Philips 17" monitor $95usd
    Logitech Z640 speakers $55usd
    Sapphire R9800Pro $194usd
    floppy drive <$15usd
use the onboard 6 channel sound and that will bring you in just under $1000usd with 2 sticks of cheap memory, so that should give you some idea on what to look for and work around.

You're going to need a PSU and if that case doesn't come with one, it's way to expensive. This is a fairly mid-range system and you will probably your system to be much faster rather than buying an expensive case. I'd be looking at this case and this PSU if I were you.

In the case of the monitor, you really aren't going to want an LCD for gaming. Stick with CRTs for gaming systems. But if you really want an LCD...

You're also going to want to throw some more money into memory. If you're going with a P4 setup (as opposed to a socket 754 Athlon 6f setup), a couple sticks of this PC3500 would be better.
For hard drive, you should be getting SATA. The motherboard you're currently looking at has SATA support. I'd personally be getting a Maxtor but you might want a Western Digital.

If you do any overclocking, you'll want some Arctic Silver for your processor. Hell, you might want some even if your not OCing. You'll also want to get an OEM CPU and a seperate HSF for it.

One last thing to consider: You could go with an Athlon 64 setup instead. At this price range, I'm betting it would be faster than the P4 setup. You will probably be looking at a KV8 and a 2800 Newcastle. You'll also need a HSF unless you get a retail CPU.

If you still need to save a few bucks, you should probably drop the sound card as the on-board audio on both motherboards (P4 and A64) should be pretty good. You could also look into a cheaper XP Pro (such as an Academic version, if applicable, or an upgrade version).

I suppose if you need the space an LCD makes sense.
But $100 for a case + PSU is incredibly expensive. It's worth it to save yourself $40+ and get a cheaper combo.

I'm not even going to look at your hardware unless you get your own thread instead of hijacking someone else's.
