Thread: Athlon Processor Delima

    Default Athlon Processor Delima

I'm lookin at getting a 64 bit solution. I'm lookin at the 3200, 3400, and 3500. I know all of these have internal hardware differences and whatnot. Is the performance gap really that much better between the processors and is the 939 socket a good investment?

Socket 939 is a great investment. An Athlon 64 3500 will perform noticably better than the lesser Athlon 64s. It is also much more upgradable. Going with socket 939 is currently the only good investment. Socket 754 (and socket 940 , for that matter) won't let you go as far when upgrading. Intel is out of the question...

Unless your budgetin. The 3500 retails for $600 atm doesn't it? Thats a fair wallop for a single component. But if you got the $$$ - the 3500 is the highest step before a HUGE one, price wise, if u get what I mean.

More like $350ish... U.S. prices anyway. It's still expensive, but it's a beter investment for the future. For someone on a smaller budget, socket 754 is the entry-level platform.
