One of the main tricks of the trade to keep in mind when getting an LCD type display is to make sure it supports DVI output. There are several on the market that use some hybrid analog signal and they really do suck.

As to the LCD for gaming issue, I have been hearing that Samsung (I think that is right but I'm not positive) has an LCD display made for gaming. It has some very quick response and supposedly they have taken care of the issue of trailing action. Might see if it really works for knowledge sake, but I have no idea what the price tag might be on this type monitor.
