    Default LCD Vs CRT

    Hey.

I'm just pricin some parts for a new box. It'll be along the lines of AMD 64bit 3500, Radeon 9800xt etc. Fairly pricey, and made for gamin.

Now, when I was lookin at getin a new screen for the heap I'm usin atm, I remember readin alot that LCD sux for gaming. Low refresh rate etc.

My prob, I'll be usin this box in uni (Halls Of Residence), so space is a high priority, which is why I am seriously considering a 17" Acer (or) BenQ LCD. Are they any good now? Or completely useless for anything but data entry?

    Thx.

Can't comment on those LCDs, but you can get a flat CRT... That'll save space and be good for gaming.

Also, just in case you were actually getting a 9800XT, don't. A regular GeForce 6800 is much better and costs much less. An X800 Pro is just a little more and performs much better as well, if you insist on ATI.

AU... Couldn't tell you. It might be different for you guys (besides the different currency), but over here the 6800 goes for ~$290 online and the X800 goes for ~$400. The 980XT is over $350, so it's just not a wise choice. But the new cards might be more costly in Australia.

No real budget - I'm just lookin for a good screen, and I'll fork out If its worth while - If I was gonna put a price on it, no more then $600 Au. And I haven't seen a 19" LCD for under $900 here.

Yeah - I've used that site b4, but I've found a few GREAT sites aren't listed by it (eg Directcomputer.com) so I dont use it too much anymore.

I'm just lookin for info on whether to get an LCD or CRT, but over all. I will probably get it from a market somewhere. Cheap as there - no site will beat em.

I'm probably to set in my ways and prejudice but I've yet to see an LCD monitor that I would personally own let alone use yet (I'm perfectly happy with my dual 19" flat Diamondtrons).
