A properly installed and tweaked Windows 98SE will perform almost precisely the same as XP. However, I would still recommend XP, for a number of reason (mainly stability and reliability). And once XP 64 comes out and is stable then there's no discussion on what to use.

Well I payed 1.20 for a sealed boxed edition of 98, im running it now on my slow pc, and it makes a huge difference, although its still a peice of rubbish. Im actually looking forward to setting it up, i think Ill just pick up psu from shop maybe, before any return period on parts I got runs out :)

BTW, be sure to install this unofficial service pack on any 98 machine. It's simply a must-have for speed and stability.
