    Default New GFX Card

Im gunna get a new graphics card as im fed up with me existing GeForce, its just not good enough for doom 3! Its the lowest rated GeForce 4 (not the MX) with 128mb.

Im looking for suggestions. Should I go and buy a top of the range 256mb card, or wait until 512mb's are released? If I go for one of the current 256mb cards, it would probably be something nVidia based (i love nvidia products)

Looking to spend between 80 and 200 (i think thats about $120-$300). Im not really to sure what the currency exchange is.

    Give me some suggestions

    Thanks
    AMD XP2500+ (2.3GHz, 'barton'), Abit NF7-Srev2 mobo, 2x 256mb PC2700 (crucial memory), nVidia GeForce 4 128mb, 80gb Western Digital ATA-133, 40gb Maxtor ATA-100, BTC 52x32x16 CD/RW and half a dozen fans!

If you can't afford an X800 Pro or GeForce 6800 GT, get a regular GeForce 6800. It will be amazing in Doom 3.

Yeh, i was considering the regular GeForce 6800. As long as I can get a consistant 50+ FPS score in Doom 3 I will be happy.

At the same time as buying my graphics card, im gunna pick up another 512mb memory, just for the overhead. 1GB should do for the time being :)

    Cheers for the advice

The best price I can find for the 6800 is around 160, which isnt bad considering what an awesome graphics card it looks! The GT sells for about 250.... and the Ultra for about 350 (way out of my price range...)

Compared to the regular 6800 model, what is the differences with the GT and the Ultra versions? 350 for a graphics card is pretty steep...

The GT has more memory and is a bit faster. You'll get almost close to the same performance in most games. The Ultra is a waste of money since a GT will easly overclock to be as fast as it without the rediculous size and power consumption.

Anyway, you can easily average around 50FPS in Doom 3 with a regular 6800 at either 1280x1024@High Quality or 1600x1200@Medium quality, I'd say. The GT would mean around the same numbers at 1600x1200@High Quality as the regular at 1600x1200@Medium Quality, and the Ultra could maybe handle 1600x1200@Ultra Quality on that system. Either that, or just some AA and AF thrown in.

But those are my estimates. How well you have the system setup can mean large differences in numbers.
