    Yes... but I do know something about computers... wasent up on the lateist hardware when I joined.

    Some dont know anythting at all... that is how I meant it...

    And I was meaning to bo one of the "others"

    Then I find out all I need to know about somthing and find somthing else that is a problem and have to get help with that....

    Back on topic...opterons also use registered memory, so you cant really expect any decent gaming performance from them..like the athlon 64 3800 could beat the FX51 in some cases for the same reason, even with half the cache

    Point Taken, But if you already have a Dual processor motherboard such as a PIII Zeon Board then buying another processor would be viable.

    Maybe, but this thread is about a dual opteron rig, which dont come cheap...a pair of opteron 240s is more expensive than an athlon 64 3700

    If it was mine I would but I said before it's my buddy's and he plans on using it for Folding after it serves it's time as a light gaming machine. Red Alert 2 is the most he will use on this. But it is good for what he needs.

    Talkin of the athlon 64, its dropped in price recently here, by about 15%.. the Winchester 3000+ is 10% cheaper than a P4 Prescott 2.8, and with the exception of video encoding and a couple of audio apps that use SSE3, it is significantly faster than the P4. Just a shame SSE3 will only feature on high-end 64's
