    Back on topic...

I might just get an nforce 4 board and a PCI-E 6600GT myself, and make the jump to a bigger card later, besides a 6800GT wont be much use if my monitor cant do resolutions above 1280x960...

Yes I do, more so than any other... XP's are overrated for the most part so are intel machines

That, and 10 seconds faster mp3 encoding isnt worth the price difference. lol
Over here, a Celeron 2.93ghz costs more than a sempron 3100

It's a waste of money even if all three of those things are true.

    Quake 3 is just irrelevant.
Video encoding is just as effective on socket 478, and a hell of a lot cheaper.
LGA775 boards don't overclock heavily. In fact, most don't overclock at all or see limitation under 10%. You'd be hard pressed to get an OC of 25% (only a couple boards can do this), which is terrible as far as overclocking a Pentium 4 goes. Most of the C line of 478s can get at least 50%, and many Athlon XPs will do even do 25% on stock cooling.

As for the Athlon XPs, I wouldn't say they're all overated (and the ratings are not meant to be direct comparison to an Intel processor of [x] MHz, it's just comes close to being true in a lot of cases). I'd actually say that some of the low-end Athlon 64s are just underatted.

Anyway, I tihnk I've said enough times about what you should do in regards to getting a board with PCI-E. Getting an Intel board with PCI-E just wouldn't make sense as it would kill upgradability compared to socket 939 (I'm not expecting Intel to come out with much of anything competetive on this platform for a long time), upgradability being the only reason to get a PCI-E board that you'd possibly have (with SLI as an exception).

Strange that theres still a distinct lack of nforce 4 boards on newegg, my supplier here in the UK has had them in stock for some weeks now

Yeah, I'd be pissed off if I had money and some sort of AGP-PCI-E bridge for my 9800 Pro. I'd be really pissed off were I in Spongebob's position. Sometimes Newegg does take a while to get the new products up, but they'll have to do it soon because there's a vey high demand and people will start checking other retailers if they get desperate.
