Would this cpu be suitable? I would like to keep my current computer operational, I will purchase another monitor, but thats not in the 700 budget.

I would stay away from the socket A line of things as they are more expencive in some cases than a socket 754, and the 754 is a lot faster and more reliable. AMD has stoped making any of the socket A CPU's except the semprons. The system I have set up for you will be quite a bit better than that one.

I'd say Crucial Ballistix is too expensive for this system. The RAM you picked is no good as it's DDR2, meaning you can't use it. I'd agree you sohuld stay away from socket A, but I think you can fit socket 939 into this budget.

I'd say you're going to need a new stick(s) of RAM, board and CPU, power supply, video card, and a hard drive, if possible (though it's not a necessity). Your system is too old to use any of that, and it's fine since you want to keep using it.

I'd rather have the 6600GT (or a different one than the 6800LE, but get that if the 6600GT isn't in stock/it becomes much more expensive when you order.

For your processor, an A64 3000 Winchester would be good along with a cheap socket 939 motherboard, but if you want to overclock a K8N Neo2 Platinum would be in order.

A 480W PSU will be sufficient for this system at stock speeds, while a 550W or maybe a 560W would be better for stability if you were to overclock.

Some Corsair Value Select PC3200 would be good for no overclocking, while some PC3500 would be better for overclocking. Get a GB if you can afford it.

For a hard drive, a Seagate 80GB IDE with 8MB cache would be good, but a SATA one would be a little better, if you can afford it. A bigger drive would also be nicer, if you need the space. ;)

For a heat sink/fan, a Thermaltake Venus 7 would do it (and you need one since the processor is OEM), but a Venus 12 would be a little better. You'll want Arctic Silver 5 either way.

Yes I would think so but it is a bit more expencive I do believe... could be sufficiently more but the 939 option will give you more upgradeability in the future, the 754 will give you more "Bang for the Buck" so to speak.
