Thread: 500$ Limit

    Arrow 500$ Limit

    Hello all

I wish to build a gaming suitable computer for around 500$, it can be stretched a little bit. I already have monitor, keyboard, mouse, disk drives, and a HD (although a bigger one would be nice). I would like alot of speed, and the best graphics card I could afford. Right now I have a radeon 7500, so anything would be better :). I am going to eat dinner, so fire away some suggestions and I'll check back in a bit.

    Regards,
    Lawton

First off we need to know where you live to see what currency you are using, and what about the rest of you curent specs in case we need to use any of those parts because of price difficulties.

You will probably end up with an Athlon 64 socket 754 system if you are in the US.

    MSI K8N Neo Platnium $100
    Amd Athlon 64 3200 (754) $190
This($235)Video card is good and brings you almost to your limit, as does this($280), if there was anything else, such as case, lights or other "ohh look at that" stuff that cost money then you may want to get this($230) or the first one.
    My Current Rigs:
    Antec P180, OCZ Powerstream 520W, DFI nF4 SLI-DR Expert, AMD X2 4400 w/XP120(2.6GHz@1.45v), 2x1GB OCZ Platnium PC3200, BFG 7900GT@592/800(1.6), WD 250GB SATA, Maxtor 120GB IDE, LG DVD/CD Combo(black), Sony DRU-810 DL DVD Burner(black)
    3DMark01:25379, 3DMark03:19746
    3DMark05:9294, 3DMark06:5340

    Raidmax Cobra, Fortron PN-400W, ASUS A8N-E(nF4 Ultra), X2 3800 w/AMD heatpipe cooler, 2x 512MB Crucial Balistix, ATI X300, WD 250GB IDE, Samsung 16x DVD/RW

I'm in the USA. My current mobo is from 1997 I believ, using normal ram. My processer is a 1.6 gig amd. Power is also a concern, as I tend to outdraw my current setups supply with usb devices, firewire, etc.

Are you sure your CPU sin't a 1600+ and not running at 1.6GHz?

You would probally have to get something like a Athlon 64 2800, Chaintech VNF3-250, cheap 512mb stick of mushkin RAM, Saphire ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (6600GT would be better) and a cheap Antec case w/ 350w PSU

If you can stretch it that far go with the setup that I gave(Possably with a lowwer CPU... say 3000) and some nice munchkin ram or mabey some corsair, OCZ or the like.

I need a bigger psu also, and a new case would be nice, the cooling in this one sucks; any good case/psu combo? Im open to any, but the lian-li's are nice, although I would take performance over looks any day.
