    Default Power supply debate!

So, after tons of assistance from all of you, I'm pretty much set on the components for my new system, except a power supply.

Here's what'll be going in the rig:

    RaidMax black 10-bay case
    Chaintech VNF4/Ultra mobo
    Athlon 64 3000+ 939 pin
    Chaintech 6600GT, PCI-e
    Patriot 2x512mb PC3200, CL 2-2-2-5
    Seagate 120GB IDE, 8MB buffer
I'll also add 2 optical drives.

    I will definitely be o/cing.

I'm considering the Thermaltake Silent PurePower 480W

Do you think this will work for this system, and give me good room to o/c? Is there another psu in the same price range that would work better?

Thats the wrong version, you want the power supply that has active PFC (W0015)

What does active PFC do/how is it going to help me?

PFC = Power Factor Correction. It supposedly helps the power supply to deliver a cleaner power load to the rails creating a more efficient use of power from the outlet. In essence this is supposed to help lower annual power consumption but there is no set standard for this and I have yet to see any performance differences between units with or without it. I wouldn't be too concerned about it myself and certainly wouldn't let it affect my buying decision.

Raidmax makes a good PSU but I would go with the ThermalTake for sure.

I'm not 100% sure about this but shouldn't he get something with the new ATX12V V2.0 standard and a 24 pin connection for that board. I'm pretty sure the 20 pin units will work but from what I've come to understand the new units are better for the most modern boards, cpu's, and graphic cards.

    Something like this for example....

Doesn't matter. The older power connectors work fine with socket 939 and 754, especially 754...

That system will work well, but you'll want some case fans and a certainly a heatsink/fan for the CPU, along with some Arctic 5.
