Wow... you guys are amazing to say the least.
Never expected this to become such a great "let's
help him build his beast" thread

    @Yawgm0th:

At least 500W was what I thought myself.
I think I can't afford to buy an Enermax again - they're nice,
but in this case a bit on the expensive side. What do you think
    about

    a) Fortron FSP500-60GLC

    or

    b) Seasonic S12-500HT?

Both are 500W PSUs and roughly cost the same (~80-90EUROS...
Enermax 500W is about 120-130 *grunts*)

The problem with the MSI boards is that they have a huge gap
costwise between Neo-F and Platinum: 79 to 114 Euros! But as
you've said: The Neo-F features the old nforce 550, the Platinum
board got the 570 chip... I'm not the technical expert, so I don't
know what big a difference this'll make in reallife.

    @Yawgm0th & casecutter:

I have already been cross-checking the prices of 7600GT and
X1800X but the ATI ones prove to be even more expensive
But there's this thing I read about - you supposedly can unlock
the additional 4 pipelines of the X1800 GTO (only the ones by HIS?)
and effectively get a X1800 XL for free? Is this a thing to take into
consideration or is the effect neglectable?

I guess I'll stay with the passive cooled GEIL Ram, I can get
this for roughly 65€ a piece and there's nothing that can compare
to that. Everything else is just expensive and as you've said, Yawgm0th:
get the cheapest stuff you can get! :)

So far so good - have to leave for work again. Gonna come back
    later to check here.

    Oh, just a quick question:
I'd guess there's noone here who would say, that you can get hardware
in London cheaper than somewhere in Germany, right? Or does anyone
know a certain shop in London and would tell me I'd definitely have to
check this one out? Gonna be in London for a couple of days next week
so there's an opportunity. If there's a webpage I can check and compare
    prices, it'd be great.

Get whichever power supply is cheaper.

The 570 chipset will overclock extremely well while the 550 won't. That's the main applicable difference. Even if you don't get a Platinum, get something other than the Neo-F.

I highly doubt hardware would be cheaper anywhere in the U.K. In fact, I'd imagine Germany would have the best prices due to a higher per capita amount of computer enthusiasts. I'm just speculating, though. You'd better check with someone in the U.K. You could even go compare prices to a U.K. store online, such as www.overclockers.co.uk.

hello, 430w will definately be enough - the graphics card 7600gt is most definately mid - range. if you dont plan on upgrading any time soon, it will be fine. that amount of money is fine for that wattage. if you want to bang in loads of disks, ancilleries, and want to upgrade cards (especially if its an ati card) then yes, you will need more power from a good brand.
    System Specs:
    AMD athlon 64 3200 venice @ 2.4ghz
    Asrock Dual-939SATA2
    Sapphire Radeon X800GTO2 chip r430 @ 480mhz core/540mhz mem with 1.6v vcore
    1gb Corsair XMS TwinX PC3200 timings 2-3-3-6 at 400mhz
250gb Hitatchi deskstar T7K500 SATAII disk
    160gb samsung spinpoint PATA disk
    Asus 1608P2 DVD+/-RW Dual Layer
Unbranded 500W PSU single 17A rail
Innovatek and Asetek Watercooling (triple fan radiator)

An AM2 system on it's own should get over 400W, and this one will be overclocked and using a modern graphics card. 430W will not be enough.

a reliable brand eg antec or whatever WILL do it, but whatever, lets err on the safe side, and do whatever you wish.

I'm not saying the system wouldn't be okay with that, but with any overclocking you'd be running a risk, and anything over a 7600 series card would probably create problems. With a more powerful PSU, he's ready to upgrade his video card without replacing his PSU.

It's been some time since I've come back from England (England, glorious England!)
and finally I've got enough time to really get going - buy some hardware!
Thanks to good circumstances I'll be able to spend a bit more
on the new hardware... so I've read some more reviews, changed
my mind on some items and here's what the list looks like right now.

    Comments are highly apprecianted!!!
Nothing bought yet - there's still time to change my mind!

    1) RAM:
    2x G.E.I.L. DIMM 1 GB DDR2-533 Kit (GX21GB4300DC)

    2) CPU:
AMD Athlon64 3500+ (Boxed, OPGA, "Orleans")
    or
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (OPGA, "Brisbane")

    + Thermaltake Silent K8

    3) Mainboard:
    MSI K9N Platinum

    4) GPU:
XFX GF7900 GT Extreme Edition 1500 (Retail, TV-Out, 2x DVI)

    5) PSU:
    Seasonic S12-500HT
    or
    Cooltek 500W Ultra-Silent

    6) Case:
    Antec P180 or P150
<= I need a case where I can add some additional fans,
the last case had zero airflow and the parts ran awfully hot.

So, what do you think? No bottlenecks anymore (changed 7600GT to 7900, etc)?

Go dual-core. In two days the Athlon 64 X2 3800 takes a huge price drop. You'd be nuts not to get one.

    Seasonic over Cooltek for sure.

Antec cases are great, but super expensive. I usually get a cheap Raidmax or the like and add fans as I please. They usually have room for plenty. If not, I get out the rotary tool and make room.

Right now the AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (OPGA, "Brisbane")
is at 169 EURO. Hopefully the price drops will affect
German retailers also - I keep my fingers crossed but
    I doubt it...

I had a long discussion with a good friend of mine
yesterday while in cinema (God... "Poseidon" was
bloody awful - nice FX, otherwise a desaster (literally). That's
why we had so much time to talk *lol*) and he told
me to NOT get a 500W PSU, 'cause it would not be needed.
He worked for a German pc magazine and the fellows of
the hardware section told him, that the important thing
is that the voltage lines (12V , 5V) etc are stable.
It's not so much a question of how much Watts it
features, it rather needs quality lines that don't
begin the "flicker" when the hardware starts "watt hogging".

What about that? Can you agree? He explained that even
with a Seasonic 430W (for 69Euro) it'd be on the safe side.
No need for spending 99Euro on the 500W equivalent.

Problem with the case is: many of the manufactorers you
told me about can't be found in Germany (haven't found
    Panaflo(w) fans or Raidmax cases :-/), that's why I'm
so hitched to the stuff the one shop sells, where my friends
    gets a ~10% discount.

But I'll have a look for those Raidmax cases, maybe
I can find a retailer here. More info soon ;-)

Hm... if you want too look at the cases that the shop
sells (where I'm planning to buy the rest of the stuff), here
are two links - side pannel is in German but products have
    factory names, pictures and prices.
Maybe you see one and say "Hell! Get that one! Cheap! Good quality",
    which I've overlooked.
