Pentium Dual Core is based on the NetBurst architecture, whereas Core 2 Duos are based on the Core 2 architecture. even the first Conroes had more cache and used less power than their predecessors, thus giving them better performance in even non-multithreaded applications... since then, even more cache has been introduced, and the inter-core latency reduced. This reduction in latency has affected an increased number of FSB transfers per second, thus even further increasing the performance. Also, all processors based on the Core 2 microarchitecture utilise the Intel64 instruction set, allowing them to run 64-bit processes and OSes, which allows for a greater RAM capacity and greater overall processing rate.

There is far more difference between the two... that is just few key ones... but in short, the C2Ds and Pentium Duals are far from the same... the C2Ds are far superior to any NetBurst based CPU in every conceivable way... thats why the Pentium Dual Cores are so much cheaper

no man, pentium dual core IS based on core 2 duo architecture bUT its got half the L2 cache compared to their conroe brothers...i.e an E6300 has 2MB L2, whereas a pentium dual core has only 1MB and running on an 800mhz fsb.

i tink ur talking about the pentium D cpu's back in 2005 which used the netburst architecture, those were the really slow ones which used tons of electricity and had gianormous heat outputs.

ahhh... true... im thinking Pentium D... as a rule pentium dual cores do have half the cache... but the yonah based chip is x86 only (ie is based on the Core architecture), whereas all the rest are transitional x86-x64 chips (Core 2)... sorry about the moks... but generally the larger cache of the Duos give them better performance than the Pentium Duals (just like Penryn beats Core 2... but the new instructions, SSE4, also helps with that feat)

Dual Core are Slower in Calculations and Speed than the Core 2 Duo, but Still the newest Prociess are the Quad Core and Still not released Core i 7.
