    Default 30 Megapixel Webcam

Hi guys, so I was searching around on ebay and found this: 30 Mega Pixel 30.0M USB PC Webcam Built-in Mic - eBay (item 320477001463 end time Oct-16-10 02:46:47 PDT)

Instantly I thought that it was ridiculously cheap and I'm thinking about buying it. But in the description it says Windows 7 32bit. Will this work on 64bit anyways? What does the 6 led do? And do you guys think this is a scam? Thanks for your replys

It's possible that it would work on 64-bit, but given the fact that it points out 32-bit exclusively, I wouldn't count on it. Additionally, while it may be a 30MP sensor, there is a question of refresh rate and image quality--namely determined by how the light gets to the sensor, and the encoding it uses to transmit the image to the PC. Also, I would be interested to know just what kind of a buffer the camera has, because 30,000,000 pixels (read: 30 MP) in 32-bit depth turns into a 114.4MB image file. That's 915.5 megabits: USB 2.0 only transfers in burst speeds up to 480mbps, so even at its fastest, you're looking at about two seconds between when you click the "capture" button and when it shows up on your screen--and that's assuming the sensor does a simultaneous capture of all of the image data it is receiving (not likely, given the price).

So if you should decide to buy it, do not be disappointed if it does not work nearly as well as you might like. Also, cameras like this one from unknown companies tend to have issues syncing video to audio (and given the fact that it can only capture video at 640x480 at 30hz, I'm not too confident in its image-taking capabilities).

Keep us posted, though. I'd be very interested to see how this turns out, should you decide to purchase it.

EDIT: No, I don't think it's a scam. The guy has 99.3% positive feedback, which means he's reputable, and he's not hiding anything about the camera. Also, judging by the product design, it appears as though the advertised 6-LED lights are there simply to provide illumination: the flash on the camera, or the nighttime recording light, if you will.

please note,30megapixel only refers to the still pictures that you take with it and not to the video!!!!! so the actual webcam video image may only use 1mp

"Static pixels: Can capture 6400*4800 (30.0M) picture" taken from listing static images of 30mp not video images
