If you're limit is around 80, I really suggest you save up and buy a good grafix card. the Radeon 8500 is under $200 with shipping, but a good video card for 80 with the features you want ain't happenin, pal.

    Read my lips: Save up!!!!

ok, after reading PLENTY about vid cards over the last 2 or 3 days and all of your responses, i *think i'm sure of what i want in a card now

    DB15 out,
DIV-I out, (with an adapter to go to DB15 since I'll want to use 2 monitors that i have now, and upgrade to a LCD later)
    S-video out,
    64mb DDR (or more)

    here's what i found:

    ** ** ** GTS = no DVI-I, no dual monitor

    ** ** ** 256 = no dual monitor support, not enough ram

ATI Radeon 64MB VIVO = i can't tell from most descriptions if it has all 3 connectors, and the price is still a bit much

ATi Radeon 8500 = right options, too much $$

    GeForce3 Ti = right options, too much$$

    VisionTek Xtasy 6564 = not quite, doesn't have DVI-I

VisionTek Xtasy Everything = has what i want with exception of DVI-I, but WAY too much $

Leadtek Winfast GeForce3 TD = just right, too much $$

Leadtek WinFast GeForce2 Ultra = also good, wrong price

so, the problem now is to find either of the last few cards for REALLY cheap

    links anyone?

    Morgan - yep, i guess it's gonna be a few more weeks with 1024x768 on a 21" monitor :(

you have ANY idea how damn BIG everything is? lol

I can only imagine...Sigh. I wish I had some big-ass monitor, because I do reviews and I'm limited to 1280x1024x32.

The first generation Radeon's should be about in your price range, with the features you're after. Have you looked at www.pricewatch.com?

I'm sure that elusive 'perfect' vid card is out there somewhere. :)

    Checkout this deal:

    http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...ry=1180&DEPA=1

A GeForce 2 GTS 32 MB for $49!!! That's the best deal out there for under $50 US.

I just ordered one to replace an aging Rage 128 Pro (Xpert 2000) in the kids box.

    What?????

What do you mean they don't work with your motherboard??

    .. And you 21" monitor Does NOT do 1600 x 1400, it does 1600 x 1200....

And when you say "you have ANY idea how damn BIG everything is? lol"

Do you mean you can't get a higher desktop resolution??? Find some new drivers man, I guarantee that a V3 can do 1600 x 1200.... wtf..

zeradul, yer reading a slightly old thread here ;)

the vd32k, CAN do that resolution, sure, but only @ 60hz - ain't gonna work for me
drivers are NOT an issue for the vd32k, it's as good as it gets - 1280x1024/85hz

as far as the other cards go, i have all the latest drivers, serveral versions of DX - and they do NOT work with this board
    simple as that :(

    and 1280x1024 on a 21" monitor, is HUGE - it's like 800x600 on a 17", or 640x480 on a 15"

this is just about 3/4" high ==> :flames:

why is 60 Hz a problem...?

And what do you mean they don't work.... that doesn't make any sense...
