Thread: Quiet fan that pushes air

  1. #1

Default Quiet fan that pushes air

I know this may spark a debate but as I go to reviews about fans I keep getting pointed in the direction of the Scythe gentle typhoon 1850rpm. I have looked for it but no one seems to have it. Does anyone know what is going on? Thanks.

    I'm looking to upgrade my stock intel CPU cooler and I'm considering either this Antec Khler H2O 620 CPU Watercooler,Antec Khler H2O 620 CPU Watercooler (Socket Intel LGA 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / AMD AM2 / AM3 / AM2+ / AM3+) [0761345-77085-9] ,this Akasa Akasa AK-CC4008HP01 Venom Voodoo CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366/LGA2011/AM2/AM3 [AK-CC4008HP01] or a Coolermaster 212 hyper.

    What are your thoughts guys?

I run an Intel i5 2500k on an ASRock Pro 3 in a Coolermaster CM690 case with 1TB HDD and 64GB SSD,
I've not done an overclock yet but the time is fast approaching.

How will you use your fan? case fan? computer case?
Buying a fan with an fluid dynamic bearing (FDB) will have less noise and much longer life.
Are you looking for a 4-pin PWM fan?
Do you want to use a fan controller to manually change fan speed and noise?
The Scythe-usa website has a "buy online" tab that is "coming soon".
Check out the Arctic Cooling F-model fans at ARCTIC F PWM Case fans Cooling Arctic Cooling.
edit: Noctua also makes quiet, high quality fans.

    @Andrew M
An air cooled tower setup might have problems with some memory modules if your ram has heat spreaders that are taller than ~40mm. From what I've seen, a low cost sealed water cooling setup performs similar to the best air cooled setups. Corsair has several sealed water cooling setups and you might get significantly better cooling performance if you buy a somewhat more expensive sealed setup. There are quite a few web reviews for these setups, check it out.

Sometimes you can find a diagram that shows the detailed cpu heatsink dimensions on the manufacturer's website.

    Hi Jim,
I want a CPU cooler that will work when I start pushing the system and as I'm new to this kind of thing I don't really have any idea what I should go for.
I noticed high temps running on the cpu and went to amazon where I saw an Arctic unit for 25 and thought my problems were solved quite cheaply but after having looked into it a bit further it's the same story as with so much tech stuff, too much choice and not enough money to spend.

I've considered the Antec Kuhler stuff, the 620 and 920 and they're not off the list yet but I think I'm more inclined to a Noctua now although their fans not being PWM and the fact of my memory being Corsair Vengeance and standing over 2 inches tall with the heat sinks attached keeps the Antec nearer to meeting my requirements.
I'm also considering trying a Coolermaster 212 hyper and adding a second fan although I've read that it becomes quite a noisy unit when you do that.
So,any experience you have that you could share with me about any of this stuff would be very welcome ,I'll probably hold off ordering one for a week or so until I feel happy that I've done enough research into the subject.
I think the Noctua would be the best performing unit but the thing looks absolutely huge and I'd definitely run into issues with my RAM with that one.

I want something I can put in the case, close it and forget about it really,it would be nice if everything was automatic after that.
    Thank you for your input,

    Thanks,

    Andrew

The thing with the Noctua for me is I use Corsair Vengeance RAM and it stands over 2 inches tall so I'm a bit concerned at being able to fit it in.
Have you got a link to where you bought please or has that deal expired?

Have you looked at the corsair all in one watercoolers? I think one of those would be the best,no ram clearance issues noctua are the best when it comes to fans, their heatsinks will be too big for you I think, looked at akasa Apache fans? I'm running one if those on my CPU heatsink and its pwm and very silent
