    Hi,

Here is a first pitch of a new gaming build that I want to buy soon. Please tell me what you think of it and what I should change. It costs roughly 1800$ on Newegg Canada.

    Case: Corsair Carbide 500R

Newegg Canada - Computer Products, Laptops, Electronics, HDTVs, Digital Cameras, Cellphones and More!...

CPU: Intel Core i5 4670K Haswell 3.4 GHz

Newegg Canada - Computer Products, Laptops, Electronics, HDTVs, Digital Cameras, Cellphones and More!...

    Cooler: Corsair Hydro H100i

Newegg Canada - Computer Products, Laptops, Electronics, HDTVs, Digital Cameras, Cellphones and More!...

    Motherboard: Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H

Newegg Canada - Computer Products, Laptops, Electronics, HDTVs, Digital Cameras, Cellphones and More!...

GPU: EVGA GTX 760 Superclocked 2 GB (x2 in SLI)

Newegg Canada - Computer Products, Laptops, Electronics, HDTVs, Digital Cameras, Cellphones and More!...

Power supply: XFX Pro Series 850W BRONZE

Newegg Canada - Computer Products, Laptops, Electronics, HDTVs, Digital Cameras, Cellphones and More!...

    HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2 TB

Newegg Canada - Computer Products, Laptops, Electronics, HDTVs, Digital Cameras, Cellphones and More!...

SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 128 GB

Newegg Canada - Computer Products, Laptops, Electronics, HDTVs, Digital Cameras, Cellphones and More!...

Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8 GB - 1600 MHz

Newegg Canada - Computer Products, Laptops, Electronics, HDTVs, Digital Cameras, Cellphones and More!...

    Now, some questions:

    - Since I'm using my SSD as a boot drive, is there a big difference in performance between the Samsung 840 and Samsung 840 Pro at this level ?

    - Is getting 16 GB of memory worth it for gaming and everyday computing ?

    - Is 850W overkill to run that build. If yes, which power supply do you recommend ?

    - I don't plan (at short term) to do overclocking. Should I get a cheaper heatsink instead of the H100 ?

    - Any comments on the Carbide 500R ? Is it a good case ?

if you wanted a cheaper aircooled heatsink you would want low profile memory so not to foul on the cooler

8gb of ram is plenty for gaming so is the non pro Samsung 840,you can also go for the 750w xfx psu or the 850w,whatever ones cheaper imo

the rest of your parts look ok to me

With two EVGA GTX 760 Superclocked 2 GB in an SLI setup, a good quality 750 watt power supply like the XFX should be fine.
If you take the time to fill out the information in eXtreme Power Supply Calculator you will get a good idea of how powerful your psu needs to be. Keep in mind that you should not use more than 80% of the power supply's maximum rated power for extended periods of time. This will maximize psu life.

You will minimize compatibility issues if you buy a memory kit that is listed in the motherboard manufacturer's memory QVL list or if the memory manufacturer's web page for the memory kit includes your specific motherboard model.

In the USA, Newegg frequently has excellent sale prices, sometimes only for a few hours for one day on very high quality power supplies. My preference is to buy Seasonic brand power supplies, but Seasonic makes very similar models for all current XFX power supplies, as well as some Antec and Corsair models. Some Rosewill power supplies made by GoldenFlower have excellent ratings from the best psu review sites, but the Rosewill models probably are not fully modular. JonnyGuru, HardOCP, HardwareSecrets, TechPowerUp and BenchmarkReviews provide detailed reviews that seriously test all facets of power supply operation.

PSU Review Database - RealHardTechx has psu review links for most name brand power supplies and lists the original manufacturer/designer (OEM/ODM) for each brand/model in their list.

Good luck and have fun with your new build.
