I cannot speak about any amd based boards because i don't have the proper knowledge about them.

But if you choose Intel then it depends on what mem you would like to use, if you are going rdram and not ddr then i can recommend my asus I850E board, it is fast, ultra stable and will support the new hyper threading cpu's. Read about it here:

I'd say go for the P4PE board and use PC2700 mem, should perform very nice. And also let you upgrade to hyper thread in the future.

Only the 3.06ghz P4 has Hyperthreading at the moment.....unless you are bloody rich then that is not the way to go.
Will come down in price eventually though.
Read the review of it at Tweaktown homepage or Anandtech to see what Hyperthreading does.

    What is your budget?
If you are looking at the P4 2.4ghz or AMD XP2400+ range and above then the prices are pretty similar and you could go with either.
Below that the AMD are much better value.
    All depends on your budget.

Yes the 2,4 ghz cpu is a good choise and is just as cheap as amd to. Be sure to get a board with hyper thread support so that you have the best possibilitys to upgrade. Many people are very happy with asus board P4PE and some nice pc2700 ddr mem.
This setup would give you a really nice performance and will not cost ya so mutch eighter...

    :)
