I am getting a P4 2.4 533 mHz chip and am looking to see which chipset would give me the best performance. Not sure if the Granite bay chip set's DDR266 dual channel will makeup for not being compatable with DDR333 as on the Asus P4PE, or if the RDRAM PC1066 beats all of them. Also have seen mixed reviews about the SiS chipset...able to use ATA 133 but it is not a stable chipset.

    Complete system

    CPU P4 2.4 gig
    motherboard ???
    Radeon 9700 pro
    16x DVD-ROM
    RAM 512mb dependent on Motherboard

Where does it state that Granite Bay Chipset is NOT compatiable with ddr333 yet with 266 its is?...

With a duobt I WOULD go with the Granite Bay. ALL that ATA 133 stuff isn't really much to go nuts about since nothing really runs at that rate not even 100.

you should be able to Run DDR333 dimms in a granite bay MB - I just don't think it supports running it at 166MHz - I believe you're limited to (dual channel) 133MHz until Springdale comes out.

I still think Granite Bay is the way to go ofr a P4 system right now w/ the 850e running a close 2nd
...I wouldn't touch the current SiS or Via chipsets w/ a 10 foot pole

DDR333 will work on the Granite bay as mentioned
If you have lots on money to spend on a board then get the Granite Bay.
If on a budget get the 845PE. You save a lot of money and get like 5% less performance.

Here is what i came up with. Let me know what you guys think.

    GA-8PE667 ultra2 gigabyte board
    512mb DDR333 memory
with 2.4 gHz 533mHz FSB CPU

all for 461.00 shipped to my door

I think for the price/performance ratio this cant be beat...if there is a better combination or same items for cheaper please let me know.

    Tks for all your help!!

I am not going to have much in the case...like i said....a cpu, motherboard, 512mb DDR, one DVD-rom, two hard drives, and a 9700pro g-card how big of a power supply should i get. I was thinking along the lines of 350watts. Should be looking at more or less then that.

You guess have been a big help...TKS

350w should be fine - just make it a decent one
