His 512mb of memory will be on Dual Channel so performance should increase on that department as well...well that is if he goes with the AMD with green trunks....;)

    cool, that makes sense!

but then why bother with the 80Gb HD? surely that just needs to run the O/S and bits, and then you can use the other HDs as slaves?

80gb would come in handy if you installed linux, apache, php and mysql, you could set up a ****e load of dynamic web sites :p

Yes I may swap that w/ the one in the present server (which will be my workshop Multi-boot PC). As I said 4 PC will have their guts rearranged. ;)

gawd, you're in for some fun then!

I know it sounds obvious but have you made an inventory of what you have and where it fits, and compared that to what you want and where the gaps in your hardware are? might save some money / time / heartache?

(also 'nother stoopid question, but you have backed up all your data on disks?! :o )

Yes I have which is why only a case, mobo and CPU are required. ;)

The network that I have here now is perfect for here but, it won't be for the new lifestyle and business (hopefully in 5yrs I can become a local ISP) which is why this full shake up of most of the system. The Loungeroom PC gets the Server's video card (R9K). The server becomes the Multi-boot Workshop PC w/ the video card from the Loungeroom (GF4 MX440) and maybe the DVD and SB 5.1 DE (for testin' under Linux) from Thunder and it's HDD which will be a straight swap around between the 2.

*waiting for the brickbats to hit*

but why bother with Linux? really, I mean, how many of your potential customers are likely to use it?

Actually I wish to trial all those on the Multi-boot system first and become comfortable with them before loadin' onto the new server (Thunder). :thumb:
