Im buying a new computer where 3d online gameplay is my major focus.

The price difference between the 2800 intel and the 2700 amd is relatively minor , so with that in mind, which would be "right" for me?

I plan on ddr400 ram and a top graphics card. Im currently reading up on SATA to see if its worth doing, just so I dont have to do this again in 12 months ;-)

    Thanks everyone in advance

until the pci bus gets an overhal, sata dosn't provide any real benifits, except for thin and longer cables
I've gone too far and need to move on!

Im an AMD guy, thou the P4 may bench higher, so i say the 2700 w/333FSB and a good NForce2 board and Corsair XMS3500.

    i agree. but
SATA drives are going to be expensive and just as fast.
I would look into getting a mobo that supports SATA, just in case that you might want to play w/ it down the road. "so I dont have to do this again in 12 months ;-)" you would be really pissed if you had to be building another system.

    just my 2 cents

Agree w/a little bit on both acccounts... but if the boards your buying are exaclty the same.. dont pick the one with SATA if it costs more... its not a priority right now as i dont recommend SATA altogether. Besides... if SATA II comes out off the PCI bus and is really worth.. the HDD vendors will prolly include a free SATA II card to make sure anyone can use it.... wait a card is still on the PCI bus... hmmm. No... then you gotta buy a new mobo... if HDD speed is a priority... get RAID!:D
