Thread: Digital Camera Recommendations for $1000AUD?

    Hi All,

    Yes I know there are plenty of "what digital camera should I get" threads, but I couldn't seem to find any relevant to my budget. I'm looking for a digital camera for around $1000 Australian. I've been looking at the Nikon Coolpix 4300, but I'm open to recommendations.

    I was hoping to get a DV camera with atleast a 3MP CCD that could take great stills as well as video, so I'm not doubling up on camera's, but I can't seem to find anything that'll do this.

    Anyway, my wish list is;

4 Megapixel or higher (for A3 blowups)
SLR or SLR like viewfinder
Panaramic mode (similar to what the canon's do with joining the pictures via software)
MUST be able to use additonal lenses, especially largish zoom lenses
VB stubbie holder :thumb:
Macro that is really good at very close shots
Mmm, looks pretty cool. I thought it was recommended that you have atleast a 4 megapixel camera for A3 blowups? I already have a 2.2 mega pixel Kodak DX3600, it's just it has a woeful macro, lack of manual controls and additonal lenses, and it's only 2.2 megapixel.

    Meh, it's just paper specs - here are some shots of the camera in action:

    Those pics look great!

    There are just so many to choose from, I don't know what to do with myself. I feel I sorta made a mistake getting the DX3600, and don't want to rush in and make the same mistake twice. Don't get me wrong, as a happy snap, point and shoot type camera it works very well. It's just for those who like to get creative, there really isn't much to work with there.

    So far I have my eyes on;

Nikon Coolpix 4300
Olympus C730
Fuji finepix 302
At the moment I'd have to say the Olympus has me most impressed. Especially it's super macro mode! Taking photos from 4cm away is cool, at the moment I have to be atleast 50cm away to get a focused shot :(

    Hey Mr tweak, your cam looks great!
    I wonder if your cam can take close ups :?:
    And if so, how close is the limit?

    /Thx

    Going from the specs, the Olympus C730 can take photos as close as 4cm away in super macro mode.

    I've taken shots about 4mm away from objects, but 4cm is a good distance.
