Why is there such a price difference in power supplies? Wattage does not seem to matter as much as brand names. Is it becuase some don't make as much noice as others or is it something else that makes a certain 300w power suppy 4x more expensive than a 400w power suppy for example. I've been noticing this alot while doing my searching for a power supply and case.

I've chossen PC333 system ram for my new system but I'm wondering what motherboard chipsets will work best with it and be able to take FULL advantage of it. ALSO
My old system has RDram 800 mhz in it. Why is this 2 year old ram rated at a higher MHZ than the newer stuff?

Take a cheap PSU in one hand and get a quality one in the other and you'll soon know why. ;)

Working on a P4 2,4ghz but might settle for an Athon counterpart. What would be its couter part in AMD style anyway?

As I metioned before in a previous post, this rig will be used almost entirly for video games and on my home network.

I already have these parts for it from spare parts and one of my systems I'll be merging with it.
Buslink DVD burner, GeForce 4 Ti 4200 128mb display, 19 in monitor, WD 120 gb 7200 HD, 512 mb pc333 2700 system DDR Ram, CL soundblaster 512 pci soundcard plus speakers and amp, ethernet card, 1.44 diskette drive, all neeeded cables ect.

I'd like to stay under $300(US) for a Motherboard, processor, and case\fan\powersupply. I definitly want better than 2 ghz cpu power becuase its a P4 1.4 ghz (423 socket:() system that will be updated and I'm willing to spluge if I find a reasonable MB\CPU combo that work great together.
This upgrade is basically just to update my CPU becuase I'm starting to get programs recommending 1.8 ghz processing power and above and from the looks of things if I go any faster than a p4 2.4 ghz CPU things get spendy for now.
I'm feeling pretty comfortable with 2.4 ghz for another year or so judging by this years new video game lineup, that is until the end of the year atleast.
