    XP 2200
    Epox 8RDA+
    2 Corsair 256 XMS3500
    Volcano 7+
    UNEEC Chieftec Matrix MX 01BD
    Antec True 430

    WD800JB 8mb 80gig

So far that is what I plan on getting, and all I need is a video card (Nvidia preferrably). Any recommendations?

id go ati radeon 9xxx but if youre going nvidia go GF4 ti4xxx
The rig sounds awesome and you should be able to overclock quite a bit too.

I prefer that two pound Zalman cooler myself, but that's only if you're insane and have an extra $30 to spend on a cooler.

As for the video card, Radeon 9700 non-pro. Best price/performance ratio right now, unless you can find a Ti4200 for around $100 US.

Also, if I did go with ATI, what is the difference between all the 9xxx cards? There is more than a $100 difference between the 9100 and 9700 128mb cards.

    9100 is essentially a Radeon 8500. Don't buy it.

9500 Pro is a slower clocked Radeon 9700 with SOMETHING disabled (I forget if it's TMUs or what).

9500 is an even further crippled 9500 Pro.

9700 is, well, a Radeon 9700 Pro with slower memory and core speeds but costs a lot less. And, you can overclock it to Pro levels easily.

So, 9700 is the way to go.

I've got a Radeon 8500 so maybe I will roll with that until the price drops on the 9700.

However I may just give in and get it with the rest of my purchase, not sure yet.

    Thanks for the help.

My current main rig atm is very similar but using an XP2600+ and for video duties I use Leadtek's 128MB A280 LE TD MyVIVO (it's more than enough for me) but do stick with the Volcano 7+ as it will eat a Zalman any day.
