Don't ask how or more importantly why?? but I deleted 'userinit.exe' from my computer and the net result is that XP pro gets to the log on screen then no matter which user I choose I get only the briefest glimpse of the desktop and windows logs me straight out. Even when going to safe mode the result is the same.

Have tried doing a windows repair but it made no difference

Question really is how can I restore the file from the recycle bin to Windows/System32 when I can't get into windows???

Please don't preach about doing such a stupid thing!! LOL

Stick your windows xp disk into you cd drive and reboot.
Boot from the disk and choose the recovery consol option.

Your best bet would be to copy the file from another windows xp computer to a floppy and then copy it to your computer in the recovery consol.

Sorted by expanding file from Win XP CD to system32 directory follwed by a quick running of a windows repair and hey presto back in business
