I recently fried my motherboard and had to have it replaced. Along with it, I was forced to reformat my hd. So, I purchased a legit version of XP Home (so I could install SP1) and had someone install it, along with all of the drivers and a back-up of some of the files on my hd. They made a mistake, though, and instead of putting my user name as 'Naffiss', they put 'Nassif'. Normally, this would not be a problem, as you would just rename it. And that is exactly what I did. But now I am faced with a problem. The 'My Documents' folder (C:/Documents and Settings/*User Account*) is still named Nassif! I have tried changing the contents, rebooting, all sorts of stuff, but nothing works. Has anyone else had this problem?

Create a temporary user (such as 'temp'), giving them administrator rights. Log on as them, copy the Nassif folder and rename the copy to Naffiss. Then log on again as Naffiss, delete the old folder and the temp user.

2 things. Number 1: under the temp user, I cannot access Nassif, even though I have admin access. Number 2: Under the user Naffiss, I cannot copy it because I get the error "Cannot copy NTUSER, file is being used by another program". Please help!

Go to Control Panel>System>Computer Name and click the Change button. Enter the new name and apply it. It should change your Folder's name too.

It still say Nassif. It used to not show my other user accounts folders until I changed their contents, but that isn't working for Nassif. What caused this?

Try this. Go to Start>Run and type "Regedit" (without quotes) to bring up the registry editor.

    Then go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]

and edit the RegisteredOwner item to whatever name you want.

Not sure if that will work, but worth a try.

you will have problems doing that changing the directory name after renaming the account because of the fact that it is assocaited via the SSID of the install. you may find a registry hack on jsiinc.com but I really doubt it.
