I am going to re-format my computer. I do not want to have to call the Cable Internet Technician to coem out and pay 40$ to have him reinstall the program. Is there anyway to save the connection and maybe reload in back in after I reinstall Windows XP?

What cable service do you use? you should be able to set it up without the companies software, but the settings will depend on your service :thumb:

I'd be interested in knowing just what this software is. I have been on cable for a number of years now and have never had to use any proprietary software from the cable company to connect to the Internet. Not only that, but when I install WinXP it even detects everything during the initial startup so I don't have to do a thing except set my home page and get my email client up and running.

Some cable companies supply a CD that adjusts the network settings then usually loads some multimedia software (Quicktime, Realplayer, etc,..) and both are unneccessary if you already know the network settings required. So dig around in ya network properties and copy down all the settings so you can return them after the format.

Don't bother. I too use Cox and there is no necessary software needed to run the service unless you have something really strange going on. If there are just some utilities that you like to use, then just load them. Otherwise, don't worry about their so-called Technical Support Reinstallation Service as it is bull.
