that happened to a comp I used to work on, but we didn't change the icons

the guy was screwing around and did it somehow...he had no idea how he did it and I had no idea how to fix it

it was obviously fixed the next time it got formated, but I too would like to know how to fix it without formating (it was formated for other reasons)
I've gone too far and need to move on!

Ya I know the feeling. I turned of system restore long ago. With only 10GB of space System Restore takes up valuable space. But then again, I have a pretty secure setup, so If my windows crashes, I can reinstall and not loose a bunch.

To let ya know, this is what i have:

    1 Games partition
    1 Music/download partition (separte HD)
    1 System partition
    1 Page File partition
As well, I have My Documents on a separte HD, as well as a compressed file for backups incase that drive dies. Since its really old, I am expecting it to.

If you screw around with your system without any idea of what you're doing, it is highly recommended you make a restore point first. Otherwise this happens.

You're obviously having problems with this theme so just revert back to the default XP one or try another theme.

What happens if you right-click and select "Open" from the menu?

    Does it behave normally then?

If so, I wonder if there is an "autorun.inf" file in the root directory of the afflicted drives.

Like, when you put in a CD and double click the drive icon, it will run the CD if there is an "autorun.inf" present there. While right-click, open, results in an Explorer view of the same CD.

    :?:
