    does winxp pro have its own firewall...if so how do i access it..

    It is under the Advanced Properties of your network card.

    it does have it's own firewall, but it's not very good...at least that is what I've heard. I've had it disabled from day 1, i don't trust M$ enough to provide a reliable firewall

    there are a number of very good free firewalls, if you would rather use one of them... my personal favorite is Zone Alarm
    I've gone too far and need to move on!

    Win XP firewall only works one way - inbound not outbound. Recommend Outpost Firewall. Comparison chart on their website shows it has more features than any other free firewall.

    Not that they would be biased at all. :D

    I use NIS myself and have had no problems, but with my cable connection I have use the Norton line for several years now. As for the freebies, I have heard consistent good things about Zone Alarm more than any other firewall on the Net.
